What are the most liberal southern and mid west states and cities ?

I am a very liberal democrat looking to relocate to the south or southern mid-west and am looking for information to aid me in deciding where to call home.

Mid-West? Head to Minnesota and they'll find dozens of ways to pay your way and keep you happy at the expense of others.

You can enjoy (on a daily basis) the sidewalk protests held at a fairly busy intersection in St. Cloud, MN. There you'll find lunatics galore toting signs and shout-outs at passers by and regardless of how shabby they look or how much of an odd sight they gather - they love the mindless ability of the local police department as they create one mockery after another with some of the most zany issues normal liberals could even fathom.

They'll provide coats, sandals, floppy hats and sunscreen - all you have to do is show up.

What kind of 'Liberal' are you?? That is a definition you ought to give first.

Austin Texas is a good mix of liberalism and southern good ole boy fun.

Norman Oklahoma (famous for Sooner Football) is a very liberal enclave; it was voted one of the best small towns in which to live. It has many art, sports and political events to keep you entertained.

Louisiana. That place is a joke.

New Orleans would fit the bill for you. Avoid Alabama, even the Democrats are conservative (they're TRUE Democrats). :)

Not an exhaustive list, but my life experiences, reading, and conversations tell me as follows:

New Orleans (traditionally, not sure post-Katina)
Charleston, SC has a tolerance vibe
Atlanta - just don't stray to far away
Asheville, NC
Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill
Austin
Houston - IN the city
Little Rock - it DID house the Clintons
Charlottesville, VA
Memphis

These are all SOUTHERN cities. I think in the Midwest, you won't find "liberal" unless you go north like Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis.

Also, I listed only CITIES (though some are small), no TOWNS like Oxford, MS or Athens, GA.
