Financial aid help??

Do colleges look at your credit when deciding to give you financial aid because I am thinking about going back to school and the 2 years I was out of school I managed to mess up my credit! Anyone in the same situation or been through a similar problem? Any financial aid information is welcome! Thanks for the help!!

Most colleges do not - they look solely at your demonstrated need. Some colleges are generous and can put together a financial aid package meeting 100% of your demonstrated need with grants from the college and loans from the federal government.

The problem arises when there is a gap between the amount that the college calculates as your need and the amount that you actually need for college, or when the institution does not guarantee you complete coverage for your need. If you then have to take out private loans, they will definitely look at your credit history.

They usually give you financial aid according to your income. You can definitely get a loan, and as for grants, there are a LOT of grants out there you can get, you just have to find the school you want to go to, and talk to them about getting financial aid. They will help you.

Nope they don't look at it unless you are borrowing from a private loan service.

they didnt check mine! this will be my second semester using it, and i filed back in march, and mine went through just fine. my credit isnt bad, but not the best in the world! good luck
