Can rock stars, philanthropists & world governments eradicate AIDS?

To be honest, this isn't so much a question for my information as it is my curiosity of what others think. But with so much being said over who (celebrities, philanthropists, governments) is doing what to fight AIDS, I often wonder what the public at large thinks.

Do you believe that man with his money, positions of prominence and social influence can permanently win the war against AIDS?

Let me be the first to share my opinion: I don't believe any of the above individuals or institutions can do much to rid the world of this killer. The main thing that has to take place is a DRASTIC change in human behavior and since no one will accept being told "you can no longer engage in this activity or that practice", then no amount of money or celebrity photo-ops can succeed. (Note: This excludes innocent victims (children, spouses of cheating mates, etc.))

The only REAL solution I see is intervention by God Almighty himself which from all indications can't be too far off...

Only a Moral Way of Life can eradicate AIDS !

To be honest with you, the only people that can eradicate AIDS are our hardworking pathologist and other medical scientist. As for rockstar, they can only create awareness on the disease and hopefully it will educate people about the disease. As for government official, they can only approve grant to provide medicine and other ammenities to make AIDS victim more comfortable.

You've got to give them credit for trying. I've been annoyed by rock stars trying to save the world but then I realize they are actually using their fame and fortune for a good cause.
The bottom line is that the individual will have to decide what to do with the information and warning given by government etc. There are still too many myths about AIDS in Africa alone (ex. that it is cured by having intercourse with virgins.) So, in spite of efforts (which should be made), individuals will have to decide whether to spread, or not to spread.

To a certain extent, I think they can. The rock stars and philanthropists can increase awareness and help fundraise for any research and eradication programs that the governments put into place. The governments need to ensure that researchers have enough funding to develop and test promising cures or vaccines.

If the world was able to eradicate smallpox (minus the viruses stored in lab freezers here and there), then I believe that at some point, we should also be able to eradicate AIDS but everyone is going to have to help.

As a person working in Zambia to fight the AIDS crisis, I would say that one the one thing the AIDS fight needs is money. We have the will and the man power to prevent, treat, and at least drastically reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS around the world, but we just don't have the money. Celebrities and politicians are doing some (although arguably governments are not doing nearly enough) to raise much needed cash for the fight against AIDS. They cannot cure it alone, but they are a big part of the solution.

The scientist that I work with have reversed the HIV/AIDS
virus, 54 forms of cancer and 47 genetic disorders. But it will not
be on the news everyday because of the big pharm boys. We have been on 20/20.

you are looking for nirvana

If you ask me, the only real way to eradicate AIDS is to eradicate the carriers, and start over. Another idea would be to quarantine all HIV/AIDS carriers, including the primates that AIDS originated from, all together, and use the isolated individuals in (safe) lab experiments, to help find a cure. It is a losing battle until we find a cure, though. Someone will eventually do it. Maybe not in your lifetime or mine, but it will eventually be cured (or suppressed beyond worry, like tetanus and rabies).
