Searching for information regarding family surname Ayuoyo?

Unable to find information geneologically about grandfather's
family. Do not know how to spell name that was pronounced
Owhyo. He was an orphan from Mexico, raised in a monastary
somewhere on the California-Mexico border. Came to the US,
changed his name, so it is very difficult to find any information. His
father was from Spain, mother from Mexico City, Mexico. He was approximately 18 years old in 1910 when he came to the US and
lived mostly in Colorado and Wyoming working for the railroad. His family died in a plague of some sort approximately 1900 in
Mexico City. This was also his birthplace. Would like information
regarding origin of name (Spain?), plagues in Mexico City at the
turn of the century, monasteries on the California-Mexico border
and any other information that may be pertinent in aiding our
search for our heritage.

Do you know of any specific town in which he lived in 1910 or 1920? If so, you may be able to get some clue from the U.S. Federal Census records for that area. Email me at fmosconi@aol.com if you know the town, maybe I can help you.
