Should AIDS Information be public record?

AIDS information such as statistics and prevention is already public record.

If you're asking about personal diagnosis, I would have to ask why? What difference does it make to you if your neighbor or coworker is HIV+ or has AIDS... if you're not having sex with them it doesn't matter.

Even if your are having sex with an unknown partner, it is your responsibility to protect your health as best you can by following safer sex guidelines and prevention methods.

Revealing names of HIV+ people is the equivalent of branding them, leaving them open to discrimination and attack. There simply is no compelling reason to do so.

And to the individual who thinks issuing HIV- cards is a good idea, they would only be good until your next unprotected sexual encounter, and can only vouch for what occurred 6 weeks prior. It is possible for a person to have unprotected sex week 1, test negative week 2, and then develop HIV antibodies week 4 two weeks after the negative result, thus making a card useless.

AIDS information for educational purposes should be and is public record. You can get tons if info online or through any local AIDS prevention group. However, any information about individuals with HIV/AIDS should be protected because some people discriminate against individuals with HIV.

No way. But I do think when you get tested they should give you a CARD with the date that certifies you tested negative. Then you could show the card to a potential partner.

No. It has too my downfalls for the people that got AIDS in an innocent manner. It affects jobs, society standing, relationships etc.

If I take your meaning, it may sound, on the surface, like it would be great if you could check public records to see if a potential partner has HIV. However, if it was you would you really want your employer, every future employer and everyone else in the world to know? What a nightmare. I come down on the side of keeping it private.
