College,Job, Financial Aid, Rent, HELP!!!!?

My situation is:
I am 20, will be 21 December
I recently migrated to the U.S living with my father 'last October".

Things are not what I expected"my dad don't care about me", I got accepted to start College September.I plan on doing a Bachelors in Computer and Electrical Engineering as a transfer student.

But my dad don't want to give me his taxes info "even though he is claiming for me" for me to apply for financial aid.

I am planning to get a job, an apartment, and apply for Fin. aid on my own. "basically go on my own".

I need help from anyone who had the same problem, or anyone that have a solution that will benefit me.

including; job hourly rate, max rent per month, and Aid type.

Thank You!!!

Yes I am an eligible non-citizen "permanent resident".

Also I am in New York.

Are you a US Citizen or an eligible non citizen? You need to make sure you are, because I'd hate you to go through all this and not be eligible for it anyway.

You need to stress to your father that by him providing you his tax info he is not obligating himself to pay for your education in any way. On the contrary, by providing it he is allowing you to go to college and pay for it on your own. By not providing it, you are missing out on any hope of any kind of grants and even many scholarships require you to fill out the fafsa.

If you plan to move out of your fathers home then you need to first fill out a FAFSA and claim yourself as independent. In order to do that you have to have your own place. FAFSA will evaluate your financial aid based on your income and finances as an independent student. Dependent on where you live I would budget at least 50% of your income to go to the basic upkeep of your home. So if you make $10 per hour then I would say the max in rent you could go is about $450 per month. You also have to factor in food, utitlities, gas, etc. Once you recieve what aid you are available for from FAFSA you can always use your loan money to take care of yourself but this shoudl be a last resort.
