I need info about fair pay.?

I posted a similar question a couple of months, but didn't get many responses. I'm asking again as I also have new info.

This was my original question:

I've read a bit about it, but most of what I've read is in regard to men & women getting equal pay for doing the same job with the same requirements and such.

I would like info about women getting the same rate of pay as other women doing the same job w/ same qualifications & such.

And also how can I use these laws so that I can get the salary that I an owed, because my job is screwing me right now.

I work as a CAD (computer aided design) Artist for a fashion company. Three of my co-workers (1 past 2 present) make more than me for doing the same job. (coincidently we all went to the same school & have the same degree) I've talked to my boss about raising my salary (without bringing up my knowledge of others salaries) based on my work ethics & contributions to the company.

The big boss listens to what I'm saying, but promises nothing, and as a result nothing happens.

This is the new info I have. One of my co-workers just got a review on Fiday 7 got $2,000 more a year. Now she's getting $7,500 more a year to do the same job as me.
I've been there for a year & a half. When I got my year end reveiw in December I'd been there for a year & I only got a $1,500 raise and the other girl got $2,000 and she was already making $5,000 more a year than me.

I'm a hard worker, I do what I'm told and I come in on time, I've found countless ways to save time & improve efficiency and it's gone totally un-noticed.

In addition another girl in my office makes $13,500 more a year than I am.

How can I handle this situation, I am owed a raise, but don't what else to do to get it.

How do I let the big boss know that I know whta's going on without saying it straight to his face?

What the other people say here is correct. I'll add that in your position that you may need to find another job. Circumstances like yours are almost always a sign that somebody doesn't like you on a personal level. Your work is okay, so they aren't going to fire you, but they'll be passive-aggressive by not paying you as much as others. You say you have good reviews. Use them as proof as you go out and start looking for a new job. If you get an offer, you can use that as leverage with your old employer, if you really want to stay there. If you think your lack of pay increases is due to racial or ethnic issues, you should contact your local EEOC office. Also, do take a hard look at yourself and your attitude and your personality. Are you sure you aren't being abrasive to others? Can you think of anybody, anytime saying anything? Is there anybody at work you can safely ask? Good luck!

you can not possibly know everything the other employees do. Maybe they take on more assignments than you do or always volunteer to stay later. Maybe they are just better employees. Anyway if you force the issue you will find your self fired before you can ever try to prove you are unfairly being paid less.

Prove it........if you make a lot of noise........you will find yourself looking for a new job..........keep thinking that the company owe's me and I hope you have your resume up and ready to go.............

equal pay laws are based on sex equity
the federal law does not regulate pay issues except minimum wage and discrimination. different levels of pay are not illegal as long as the differences are not based on being part of a protected group.
your pay is based not only on what you have noted but also seniority, job-performance, productivity, management evaluations, starting wage and numerous other issues as dictated by company policy.

in short there is no law that will get you a raise because the pay scale is not regulated by law only discriminatory practices are.

if raises are done based on a percentage (as cost of living adjustments are) then it stands to reason that someone who makes more will get a larger dollar raise even though their percentage is the same or possibly lower then yours. you are also making the assumption that all employees have the same number of years of experience as well as the same number of years with the particular employer.

How do I let the big boss know that I know what's going on without saying it straight to his face?
what is it you think you know?
instead of worrying so much about others focus on your performance. ask your supervisor what you need to do to improve your performance and earn an increase. ask that management work with you to develop a plan to get you where you think you deserve to be. as you see the important thing is to get management to see you as the valuable asset that you see in your self.
perception is reality.

It's not illegal to pay you differently than the others. Some employees are better at negotiating salary at hire than others. Some people are simply better their job and get more money. Others negotiate raises at evaluation time. Some are simply more talented or are more valuable to the employer.

You make less than the other women, so there's not actually any illegal discrimination. You may think you have equal work ethic and make equal contributions to the company, but your boss may not think so.
