I want to go to college, but have no money. Help?

Recently, I've been wanting to go back to school, because I feel deep down that I know I cannot do much off of a mere GED. The downfall is that I am not employed at the moment. I was always against financial aid because I didn't want to be in a situation where I didn't want to have to pay anyone back, especially with me having no job. But I can go back to school for two years and get an associate's degree in information technology. Would financial aid truly be worth it, considering that there is no real guarantee that I'll be working right after I graduate?

Also, when applying for college, I decided to take online courses to get my associates degree in Information Technology. During the application process, the recruiter told me to pick a primary and secondary payment option. She was walking me through it as all of it was new to me, so she was telling me what to select. My primary payment plan was financial aid, while my secondary was paying for it myself, 100%. If my financial aid doesn't cover all two years, would I have to come out of my pocket with the rest? Im concerned because I finished the application and really cant afford school at all. Thanks.

Honestly, I would go back to school because you already stated it yourself, "cannot do much off a mere GED". IT is in high demand so if you get well trained in a technical college you should certainly be employable right when you graduate. Plus, financial aid will look at your overall financial need and since you are not working you have high financial need which makes you eligible for both state and federal grants- money you do NOT have to pay back!!! Any additional money would come in the form of loans but these loans do not have to start being paid until 6 months after you graduate and if you apply early enough and are found eligible for need based loans (which you will) you can even get a Federal Perkins Loan which does not have to start being paid back until 9 months after you graduate.

Yes, financial aid will be worth it. Keep in mind tuition at a community college is often lower then a four-year. Also, there are many scholarships offered, you may want to search for them. Also, check with the financial aid office at the school you want to attend, they can help you afford school.

it's so much better to have a college degree. with a degree, not only are more job opportunities available, but you will be making a lot more money! everyone has to pay back loans, etc. i know two people who are paying college by themselves. also, if you're independent you will get MUCH MORE aid then others. this includes scholarships and grants which you DO NOT have to pay back. only loans from banks are what you have to pay back.
