School loan help?! I have no idea..?

I'm just turned 23 this month, and i've been living independant from my parents since my senior yr of high school....but I still have to use my parents tax info on FAFSA. Actually, I use my stepdads info....but my parents cannot give me money for school..and they live two states away. So far, I have been paying for school as I go &but i'm almost finished at the community college i'm attenting, and I need some loan help. The people at the fin. aid office at school are not helpful, and my parents don't know what to do because neither one of them went to an actual college. Does anyone have some good advice about how to get a student loan & who i should go through?

If you start an account with fastweb.com or scholarships.com you might be able to find some useful info on loans. I think you should try bothering the people at the fin aid office of the school you're going to attend until they give you some info on what loans the school is willing to provide. You could always try getting a loan from a bank but I've heard the interest rates on those are too high. Oh, and the state you live in should have some type of higher edu. website. These are very, very good questions. It is very wise of you to be careful about how to get a loan and who to go through. I used to work in a Financial Aid Office, so it kind of hurts me that you're not getting the help you need there. Maybe try the Financial Aid Office web site, there could be a lot of good information there. Also, find out who your actual Financial Aid Counselor is (not just the people working the phones or the front counter) and make an appointment with that person. Hopefully, you would get more time/better answers that way.
