Why do I need to fill out another 07-08 fafsa to get summer student loans?

Why do I need to fill out another 2007-2008 fafsa to get summer student loans?

I filled out a 2007-2008 fafsa last year. The summer term is part of the 2007-2008 year. I found out I do not have any financial aid for my summer semester because I did not complete another 2007-2008 fafsa. I was told to complete another one. Is this true or was I misinformed? I have never heard of this before. Why would I have to fill out another one -- the information is going to be the same.

Thanks for the replies so far. I realized I didn't give enough information in my original question. I went to my school financial aid office and they are the ones that told me to fill out a 2007-2008 fafsa. They said, "When you go to fill it out, it will say you already filled one out. Ignore that." It still makes no sense to me, because we fill it out using our tax info, so nothing is going to change.

Welcome to the world of government efficiency (or lack there of). I am not sure about the current rules regarding this matter, but I can't say that it surprises me if this is the case. (considering people in New Orleans are still living in FEMA trailers from hurricane Katrina)... I just can only imagine the incompetence that universal health care would be like.

Perhaps they want to confirm your financial situation hasn't changed?

In any case, I agree with you, its stupid and inefficient, but, thats government bureaucracy for you.

Financial aid for summer semesters is usually done on a separate ( but still the same) form. When you filled out your FASFA for 2007-2008 that's for fall and spring semesters, unless you designated at the time you plan on attending during the summer also.If you didn't check the box for "summer 2008" at the time you initially filled out your FASFA last yr, you have to do another one for summer semester.

you don't have to fill out another 07-08 fafsa if you already have done one. You need to go to your fin aid office and tell them you are interested in fin aid for the summer and see what they tell you. Usually schools have a seperate application process for summer students who went the previous fall and spring. So the "other one" isn't the fafsa... but an internal fin aid app for the school. it could be you missed the deadline for filling out that paperwork, but just call to make sure.

Student Loan can be sought through many different avenues. It all depends on your personal credit rating. The biggest challenge is finding one that offers the lowest interest rate. There are various routes to explore when seeking out a bad credit student loan and I would suggest that your first port of call would be the school for which you are about to attend. You will need to fill out a FAFSA form in order to initially apply for a federal loan. Perkins loans are combined school and government funds. A combination loan may be another alternative way of acquiring a bad credit student loan. This type of student loan enables you to consolidate<!--any existing loans that you have whilst applying for a new tuition loan. The only drawback to this type of loan is that you may need someone to co-sign.Another way to get a bad credit student loan is to get a co-signer. Maybe a family member with good credit would help. This way you could get loans with more attractive interest rates and terms, in spite of your bad credit. You may find the student loan here,

Finally, if all else fails you will need to contact banks and financial institutions. They will more than likely be happy to lend you the money, but it will be on a higher interest rate than usual. When you have bad credit the banks will check out your personal credit score first and then offer terms based on the credit rating assessment. Take heart, even if your bad credit student loan is set at a high interest rate, numerous-->student loans defer your payment until you have finished college. This in turn will allow you time to improve your credit rating and when you leave college you could then look into consolidating your bad credit student loan at a better interest rate. This will mean your monthly payments will be at a lower level and therefore more affordable.
