Freaking out a little bit, I've been selected for fafsa verification?

I didn't file my fafsa until the last possible day because that's when I was FINALLY able to get ahold of my mother and get her tax information. She and my stepdad separated last October and my stepdad refuses to give me any of his financial information, so I just put my mother's information from her W-2s down because she has no intention of filing her taxes, which I indicated on the fafsa form.

I only made $7500 last year and she only made $1300 last year and, while I claimed myself (I took a year off and moved out on my own), my father paid around $2500 in child support to my mother last year.
So now I have been selected for verification, and I don't know when I'll be able to get ahold of my mom so I can get a copy of her W2s (she doesn't have a phone.) And I don't know what to tell my financial aid office. I have my taxes done and my report on file, but I know they're more concerned with my parents' info. What should I do?

I realize that with fafsa I'm regarded as a dependent, otherwise I wouldn't be so concerned with getting ahold of my mother.

I've been selected for verification before and, as long as you completed the original forms honestly, you have nothing to worry about. They are required by law to do a certain number of verifications each year and it is pretty much routine.

They should tell you exactly which documentation that would like to see and they should give you a reasonable amount of time to get hold of that documentation for them. They are not out to catch anyone or punish anyone; they are mostly just trying to verify that the financial aid office is doing the best job they can to get aid to the people who need it the most.

So, don't worry about it and just stay in touch with your financial aid office to make sure everything flows smoothly.

If you lived without your parents and claimed yourself for that tax year then you do not need either of their information.

Selected for verification means that they have received your information. If there are any issues they will let you know. I would wait and see what they have to say. If any problems occur then address them with the finacial aid office.

I have filed late in the past and the only problem I had was having the money to purchase my books. The financial aid kicked in after I had started classes.

Click on this link, it's the dependency test for FAFSA, at the end of it, when you click NEXT it will let you know if you are classified as a dependent for FAFSA purposes. If you are, you will need to get a hold of your Mom and get copies of her information. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/fotw0...
Living on your own or filing taxes on your own has nothing to do with dependent status for FAFSA purposes.
