Paying for college!!?

okay heres the situation....my dad makes a lot of money and we would not be able to get need based financial aid because of that...i want to finance college somewhat on my own though...i have about $40,000 so far in my savings account but at the schools i want to go to that will only get me like a year or two at best....can anybody give me ANY info on college loans, and what its like to pay them back, etc.....im just really unsure of what to do

I'm actually just starting to go through this process myself. My parents aren't paying anymore so I'm having to pick up a loan for my last year. You're going to have to fill out a FAFSA account ( www.FAFSA.ed.gov) before you can do anything. From there the school will determine how much they are willing to give you in grants which wont need to be payed back (if you qualify) then they're direct you to a lender who will give you your loans. If you go through a bank they're more than happy to give you as much as you want, but you have to look for the ones with the smallest interest rate and potentially the longest pay back time. I bank with Wells Fargo so I know they have a 10 year pay back rate.

If you call your schools Financial Aid Department they can give you specifics for your school. Once you get past the FAFSA point each school operates a little differently.

apply for college grants, just let them know that ur dad is not paying for u. so u have to reimburst urself with the tuition. they'll understand and give u a grant more or less
