Why is FAFSA charging money now?

Why is FAFSA, the governmental student aid, charging money now? It's $80 dollars if you're a new member and like $50 dollars to renew it every year.

Now I have to pay $80 for a FAFSA application and who knows if they will "pass" my application. I'm paying $80 not knowing if I'll get student aid or not....What the heck.

I thought this was free anyone have any info on why they're charging money now?

The website I went to was FAFSA.COM. They charged me $80 to fill out a form and now it's too late. Thanks though for your help all. I really wish they would remove that copy/scam website.

There is no charge to fill out a FAFSA application. Where are you getting your information from? You can get a free application from:

I agree with the above poster. Is it possible you went to the wrong website? It doesn't cost money to fill out the FAFSA. Go to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ to fill it out. It is a free federal service to students.

You are on the wrong website. Applying for fafsa is free. The correct website is http://fafsa.ed.gov

Make sure it's not a scam.
