How many people receive welfare in the United States?

I am writing a paper about welfare in the U.S. and need to know how many people are receiving aid from our government. Can anyone help me on this? I have been looking all over the internet and can't find anything. It would also be great if you can tell me where you got your info so that I can cite it. Thank you!

These were a few I found...you can also go to a welfare office and they should be able to direct you to where you can find out info and stuff like that. Hope this helps!
