Can pediatriticians keep information from parents of patients 18 years of age?

I have a tattoo on my lower hip and of course my doctor looks everywhere for my physical. Will they say anything to my mom who is coming with? should i put a band-aid over it and say i got a scratch? I need advice, my physical is tomorrow!!
*please refrain from answers like "you shouldn't hide it from your parents!" I know. it is very important tattoo to me and my parents are very conservative and would NEVER understand.

I have to go to the pediatrician because i need to turn in my school form by monday and i don't have time to find another doctor. plus i turned 18 2 weeks ago. Also, the reason my mom is coming is because my little sister has the appt. right before mine.

What happens in the doctors office should stay in the doctor's office. If you're a minor, your parents may be told. If your an adult 18 or over, they cannot disclose any information without your permission [signature] to do so.

If you are 18 years of age you should fall under the doctor/patient confidentiality law. Which means no one, not even your mom can access your medical info without your permission. Secondary, beings that a tattoo is not of medical issue, there should be no reason for your doctor to bring it up to your mom. More than likely, he won't even notice it, and even if he did I doubt he would find it worth bringing up to your mom. If he does make mention of it during your exam, simply explain to him that you wish to keep it private and he should respect that.

they are supposed to keep everything confidential
I however had a doctor that even once i was 20 and moved out of my dad's house he would still give my dad and his girlfriend my information even though i asked him not to
he even told my dad after i turned 18 that i said he was an alchoholic and my dad denied it so my doctor told me i was lying (I wasnt)

so yes they are supposed to be quiet but i would still wear a bandaid just in case you have a doctor like that

If you are 18 you should not be seeing a pediatrician anymore. It's time for a grown up doctor now. Also, you a full grown adult now whether you act like it or not so your doctor cannot discuss anything about you with anyone other than you without your permission. One last thing...you already have the tattoo so no matter what your parents think...it's done.

well if your mom wants or says she have to,just say fine, when you you get to the doctor say i would not like for you to share anything with my mom or anybody for a matter of fact cause they have to respect that of you since you are of legal age,and can sue for not keeping anything confidential.he has to respect that or he could lose his doctor degree

I am a pediatrician and I see paitients up to age 17. You should not hide your tattoo.I got one with my mom when I was 18 of the chanel c's. When I went for my Pelvic exam my doctor noticed and actually liked it. They will find out eventually. If u got a scratch your doctor might want to check it out so, either tell your parents or figure out something!!

Now that you are 18 the doctor by law can't say anything to your parents without your permission. I don't think that the doctor will even see your lower hip. I don't see why he would have to look there and unless you have some kind of pain or problem there. So don't worry.

It isn't a medical issue, and I'm sure the doctor will not say anything.

If you are 18, your medical records are confidential.

you are legally an adult now.. you have your right to your privacy.

The Dr cannot tell your mother ANYTHING without concent from you first! If he did, he would be violating privacy laws!

so what if they would never understand your 18...it doesn't matter but i doubt the doctor would even mention it or you can just go to the appointment without your mom!

Sweetie, YOU ARE 18 YEARS OLD.
That means you're an adult and don't need your mom to go with you. That's just childish at this point.
Go by yourself.

Why is your Mom coming with you when you are 18 years old? Go by yourself like and adult and this won't be a problem.

just talk to your doctor. your 18 he has to respect your privacy =)
