Mnemonic Aids?

Okay... in this assignment ive been given, one part of it asks for a sheet full of Mnemonic Aids on the topic which we've studied. Its for Information Technology by the way. anyway, if I have EFTPOS for example, it stands for "Electronic Funds Transfer at Point-of-Sale". Using a Mnemonic Aid, i could make, "Eating French Toast Paints Our Sky" just for example. but i dont see the point. That means I have to remember that both Eating French Toast Paints Our Sky and Electronic Funds Transfer at Point-of-Sale applies to the acronym EFTPOS... Is this how Mnemonic Aids work??? I dont get it... thats just stupid

No, you're right - it would be stupid to come up with a random phrase to remember the same group of letters.

Mnemonic devices help you remember order and initial letters or parts of words that may otherwise be difficult to remember by helping you to focus on the word or phrase you're trying to remember and make it even more memorable. So the word selection can be outrageous but the phrase still needs to make some kind of sense, even if wacky. For EFTPOS, for example "Elmer Fudd Trains Posts".

Another example in a different field - for remembering if the 12 cranial nerves are Sensory, Motor or Both a popular mnemonic is "Some Say Marry Money But My Brother Says Bad Business Marrying Money".

Mostly, mnemonics need to paint a vivid enough picture in YOUR mind to help YOU remember.
