Lord of flies - novel and movie?

okay so I am reading the novel lord of the flies for my english... .should i watch the 1990 movie http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lord-Flies-Balth... to aid my understanding of the novel

or is the movie a waste of time

quite a few of the reviews say that it contradicts what the book is trying to get across

so i don't know if i should watch it - after all i don't want to be confused. yet i'm falling asleep whilst trying to read the book - it's just not interesting when you have NO IDEA what it's supposed to be about!

especially since my teacher is a COMPLETE waste of space. and has just left us to read the book with no introduction or aditional info about what we have to specifically look out for (i.e. use of language etc)

their exact words were - read this, learn it, because you have an exam on it!

Skip the movie. If you don't like the book, I guarantee you will not want to watch the film.

My book club just read this a couple of years ago. It is difficult to get through... good luck

the film is amazingly well done, even grotesque! if you can stand the R-rating (which is well deserved) you'll get a lot out of it. As for the book, you can read the cliff-notes on-line, just google "lord of the flies summary" and you'll get more than enough info.

There's a 1963 movie in black and white, actually. I've heard it's better than the 1990 version but I've no idea where to find it.
