Can I lie about underage shoplifting home address?

My sister was caught stealing a $2 make up brush at a Rite Aid store. The police guy asked us info, and all they got out of us was our house address, our dads phone number and my moms name. The fine was mailed to our house and is $300. My dad says that hes going to call the lawyer and say my sister doesnt live at the address, and that shes living somewhere else, what will happen?

I know my dads dumb haha and i know we should just pay, but its only 2 stupid bucks! what should we do? any help i would really appreciate it, we live in california and my sister is 14

Nice to see that your Dad is teaching you how steal and then lie to cover it up. Good job Dad!

CA law allows Rite Aid to collect $150 from each of you, even if the amount stolen was only $2. If Rite Aid doesn't get its $300, they will file criminal charges against both you and your sister. The police will investigate, they will find out who you and your sister are, and you will be charged in juvenile court.

In California, your parents will have to go with you to court. Your parents will have to tell the court why you and your sister should not be made wards of the court.

If you are found guilty of shoplifting, the fines will be more than $300 and you will have to do a lot of community service.

Your Dad's idea is dumb, won't work, and teaches you all the wrong things.

I'm not sure they can do that? But I don't know.

But I would just toss it and say nothing ever came in the mail, ha ha.

If I was your dad I would be making your sister get some type of job and pay it all off herself. She should be smarter than to steal a $2 brush, and Im surprised the store even did anything about it, I mean come on its $2! How do they send you a $300 bill for that?

trying to get out of paying a bill because she stole something. wow is that what our society has come to? she did the crime and no matter what she stole she stole it and at 14 you should know what is right or wrong. dang just pay the bill for the wrong thing she did.

hmm you shouldn't get a fine, your sister is underage. this has nothing to do with your father so if i were him i would not pay it. what are they going to do go after a 14 year old?

Your dad is not showing your sister the right path to travel. She stole it, was caught, and needs to pay for her consequences.

He can be charged with a crime for lying. I don't think he should do this. He needs to pay the fine and start keeping an eye on his child-thief.

thats illegal to lie
and if you get caught then prepare for a bigger fine and possiable jail time

No you cannot do this.

they'll probably juss make him pay it? how dumbbb. FTP!!

DO IT
they don't deserve your money!!
