Moving form a American college to a European college?

OK, I'm living in Stockton California and want to move to Europe to finish school (I'm going for my AS in computer science right now). After I finish my AS I'd like to leave the country and get my BA in Ireland. I guess my questions are is that something I can transfer with? and Also are there some kind of programs like financial aid. I don't come form a family with allot of money so I am going to need help with that.. If any one has any information on that or even any helpful web sites, Iit would all be extremely appreciated!

1St of all. The question was to inquire on how it how does this work. Not a lecture on your experience, and how hard you had it..I don't care!..
2nd. I know how much more advanced it is out there. I was born in Nuremberg, Germany and live In Europe for MOST of my life
3rd. If you really don't have any positive input then you should that someone might find helpful that NO ONE CARES. Theres people out there that might be able to help me and I (and possible some one else with the same question) would like to hear from them..

I don't actually know what an "AS in computer science" is so I cant really answer your question about transferring. I'm sure what that qualification would be in Ireland.

In Ireland you can't get a BA in Computer science.

In computer science the award is B.Sc (Bachelor of Science).

You can get a B.Sc Pass (3years) or a B.Sc Hon (4years). You can also decide whether or not you want to do single or double honours. Stuff like that can vary between course and institutions.

If you have some qualification in computer science already (higher than 2nd level/ high school) then you may be able to go into 2nd/3rd year of your chosen degree programme.

For example when I was the 3rd year of my degree programme a girl from Australisa with a diploma in Biology transferred in, she didnt have to start at 1st year she came straight into 3rd year.

You will need to contact the colleges you are interested in to find out whether or not you could skip a year. You should specifically contact the particular departments (i.e. Department of computer Science) because generally moving people up a year is at the discretion of the department head and not the admissions office. Its likely you will be able to skip at least the first year.


As for fees. Everyone pays a registration fee of approx 鈧?00.

You say you were born in Nuremburg and I dont know German nationality laws but if you are a citizen of Germany (or of any European country) then you should apply as a European and not an American.

If you are a European citizen and you live in the EU for 3 years before starting your degree the Irish government pays for your tuition fees.

If your not a citizen or dont want to live in Europe for 3 years before applying the your tuition fees will be approx 鈧?2,500 a year.

You wont be entitled to any help paying this (in Ireland at least).

Why do people want the impossible?

First of all.. you WON'T get financial assistance if you go to England or Ireland or Europe for a BA... in fact... YOU WILL PAY A PREMIUM to go to any European University.

The FIRST thing you will learn, if you DO get into university in Europe is, JUST HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW... the European school system is 3 or 4 GRADES ahead of the sub standard AmeriKan school system... you will be confronted with things you HAVE NEVER LEARNED and you will probably need some REMEDIAL COURSES just to bring you up to the same level the rest of the class has already achieved.

When I went to a well known British University for my Masters... I was carrying a GPA of 3.92... and thought I knew everything... and THEY LEFT ME IN THE DUST. It took a year and some additional courses just to catch up with the rest of the class.
