Can a college do this????

My college has now decided 3 weeks before school that my financial aid needs to be verified. I completed my FAFSA in February, and I was sent an award letter back in March. According to my school account where I view all my personal information such as transcipts and financial aid, my financial aid has been complete. Now, all of the sudden, they have decided it needs to be verified. I have went through this process before, and it took them over a month to verify my information. However, they told me a week or two after I had completed FAFSA. This time, they waited until the last minute. I am extremely upset because my financial aid office is useless and lost 99% of the time, and I know this is going to delay the release of my student loans, and I will have to wait to get my refund. Is there anything I can do? Should I demand they process my verification immediately (because they claim they do it in the order received) because it is their fault they waited until the last minute?

I am glad to know that my financial aid office isn't the only one out there that doesn't have a clue. It wouldn't be such a problem except I need this money to live on. I pay my rent up, buy school clothes for my children, etc. I am always in bad need of it and when they screw it up (like they do EVERY year), it puts my family in a bind. I have already had to go to the dean once. Looks like I might have to do it again.

I know exactly how you feel. My college screwed something up on their end and delayed the processing of my refund by months. I have pretty much come to expect this nonsense as standard procedure. I literally had to run up my credit cards to live, until I paid it off with the refund. I didn't have any other choice and they all didn't give a damn that I had nothing to live on. I would suggest trying to be persistent though, call them back and nag every day until you get what is owed to you. If one person wont listen to you, ask to speak to the next person up. Good luck

I thought most college's do that...I just turned my verification in for the second time last week. The workers at financial aide are stupid...push their buttons a little so they process it right away.
