Need advice, I lost my university financial aid because of depression?

I lost my mother, father, grandmother, grandfather all within the past 4 years, and I have been very depressed. I have done bad in school and now my financial aid has been suspended. I wrote my university appealing there decision and I told them I was seeing a therapist (which I never got around to doing) to deal with my depression. Now my university has sent me a letter back saying before they can make a decision to reinstate my financial aid they need additional information. They are asking for proof that I am seeing a therapist and want a letter from my therapist on their letterhead and for them to state the dates as to when I began seeing them and if I am currently seeing them. So I am in a hard spot because I have not actually seen a therapist yet, and the only way I can get my financial aid back is if I show proof that I have been. If I start seeing one now and have a therapist send my university a letter, my school will know I was lying about seeing a therapist.
Thanks

Yes, I am considering just going to see one now...and having them send a letter to my school. But when I wrote the Appeal at the beginning of July 2008 I said that I was seeing a therapist (they ask you how you will ensure you'll do good in school if they reinstate your F.A) to deal with my depression. And I honestly planned on seeing one, I just haven't had the time. Now I will look like a liar, if I see one now.

I would have the therapist send a letter, because the consequences won't be as bad if they find out you are lying, than if you don't send a letter at all. Am I right? Good luck!

You're kind of stuck. I have been in that situation but was told too bad, even though I was on anti-depressants and seeing a therapist. Go see a therapist and just have them write a general letter. It doesn't need to be specific on dates, just something stating you are seeking help.

Hi Seanz,

I am really sorry for all your loss the past few years, i cant imagine how difficult it has been. The only thing I think you can do is try and see someone as soon as possible (a counsellor or therapist and explain the situation to them and see if they can write any sort of letter in support of your application even if it doesnt say that you were seeing them beforehand as you don't have much choice. You could say you were looking for therapy beforehand and that you were on a waiting list. Other than this all you could do is ask the counsellor to lie which they probably wont do.

If you were seeing a gp for your depression they could also write a letter of support stating you were suffering from depression.

I hope you get it sorted, this is the last thing you need!

best of luck
xxx
