Is it illegal to lie to the American public in order to invade a foreign country? Is that considered treason?

Please, no Kool-Aid comments. It's getting a little tired, like defending the fabrication of information in order to justify starting a war.

Technically, Bush is guilty of war crimes and he should have been impeached long ago.

I wonder what people who voted for him expected from a Presidential ticket in which both the Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees were (and are) Oil Barrons!

During the debate on the impeachment of President Nixon, and again during the debate on the impeachment of President Clinton, some consideration was given to the idea of including an article of impeachment about lying to the American people. In both cases, that idea was dropped, because legal counsel to the House of Representatives said it was not an impeacheable offense. So, even if you say that Bush was deliberately lying, it would still not be impeacheable. Calling it treason wouldn't go very far either.

My Friend, Governments from time immortal have been doing that, it's just how the world works. I saw an interesting comment once. "Sure you can trust the government, just ask an American Indian" Don't believe anything at face value and find out for yourself on important issues, make up your own mind or your nothing but a pawn. It's harder to do in the free world, our press is really good and sniffing out a lie, just ask John Edwards or Tricky Dick (Richard Nixon) but he's dead, Nixon I mean. Look up "Watergate"

You'll stop getting Kool-Aid comments when you get a grip on reality. There was no "invasion". And there were no deliberate lies - that in fact IS a lie. Little minds take complicated situations and issues and turn them into black and white: "lies!", "fascism!", "treason!" - but the world is more complicated, and international politics are MUCH more complicated. Many of US are "getting a little tired" of explaining it.

So once again. No one lied. There was faulty intelligence, which Republicans, Democrats, and many countries bought in to. The U.S. did not unilaterally enter Iraq, but did so with allies. It was not an "invasion", since at the time the Iraqi soldiers were actually putting down their arms, walking toward the U.S. troops and begging for help. The people of Iraq HELPED the US troops oust their dictator. So you see, another liberal lie: "invasion". But I suppose that if one's education doesn't allow them to understand the complex reasons for a war starting, they jump to the silly conclusion that anyone WANTS to start a war. Just for the heck of it!

Honestly, the way this anti-Bush fantasy has taken on a life of its own is astoundingly immoral and depressing. He hasn't been a perfect president, but he's done the best he could with the kind of situation no other president has ever seen. And people with tiny little brains have repeated and mimicked lies like monkeys and vilified him for trying to protect a nation. Really, really sad.

If we had bothered to save our public educational system in the last two decades, we wouldn't be in this mess, because people would be better informed, would have the slightest idea what responsibilities the executive office has, would know what the words "treason" and "fascism" actually mean, and you . . . you would be ashamed to advertise your ignorance the way you have.

The punishment for turning a blind eye while liberal politics destroyed the quality of education is that we may now elect someone with absolutely no experience, who is indeed in the pocket of actual "fascists". If that happens, I predict that in ten years, a new generation of Americans will know exactly what those words mean because they will have learned the hard way. . . by living it.

What would be really nice to know would be if president Bush knew about Saddam's bluff. Saddam was so afraid the Iranian's would attack he put on that he had all these powerful weapons of mass destruction. He refused to let the inspectors into the country portraying a ruse that he had stuff to muck up the surrounding country's. To compound it he paid suicide bombers family' and wanted to form a 1 million man army to wipe out Israel.He won't be organizing that one now will he? To toss fuel on the fire, America was reeling from anthrax attacks in the mail.What the hell were the US peeps supposed to do?

No it is not illegal to lie to the American Public, providing that some things are considered "classified" or "top secret". The Iraq war is not considered an illegal war. Please read up on Constitutional Law.
