How would getting legally married effect my SSI ?

My husaband and I are handfasted, (the non legal kind, obviously. handfasting is essentially a pagan marriage). We would like to get legally married, but hesitate due to the fact that I recieve SSI (supplemental security income) due to my disabilities. He is currently going through school to become an art therapist and is recieving financial aid/grants/loans. Would Social Security take away my check if I got married? Would it get reduced? How much does the spouse's income affect mine? The Social Security Administration website offered nothing helpful. Any info would be awesome. Thanks!

i can answer this for you yes..both if he make enough they will take it from you..my sister in law went through this.. her husband on a walk around oxyen tank and in a wheel chair and her working at huddle house as waitress they took his check away.they really do not want to help you;;if you feel married with the handfasted..then leave it be..

they would count his income against you if you get married,
stupid but thats what they do
when i was working my husband ssi was effected when i was hurt it went up ,so stay they way you are ,,

i doubt it will get taken away, but more then likely it will get reduced.
