About to loose my job....NEED ADVISE ASAP!!!!!!? |
have been with my current employer for almost 4 years. I am a hard working, dedicated employee with no past preformance problems. I made a mistake with my bank (I am responsible for $28,500) and it caused the company to loose $5010.68. I am being told as we speak if they cannot find the error, they will just assume that I took the money and I will loose my job. Just FYI...my job is not a bank, it is a hotel and the problem is they count my safe every thursday. Last thursday it was fine, this thursday it was short. I opened the safe 6 times total to give out change to the employees. I am 99% positive I locked all of the funds back in the safe. I am not sure what happened. We have gone through all the paperwork from the 14th (last time it was counted) to the 20th (this time it was counted) and cannot find any errors. We have also called the bank to confirm that all the deposits were correct (because I make the deposits each day also) and they were. Well, I hope that the problem will get sorted out and you won't have to worry about it. But in case it doesn't: They will just assume you took it if they can't come up with another explanation? That sounds kind of odd. Have you done anything shady in the past? You can probably qualify for unemployed for the rest of them, possibly. Ok, if you get fired... yes, you can collect umemployment (usually through the state's workforce center (located in nearly most towns in that state). You can apply for unemployment, but you won't be able to collect. Your employer has already told you they will assume you stole the money if the error isn't found. ...and your employer will tell this to unemployment when they call to verify the termination reason which will result in your claim being denied. If it was a bank error, you should be able to clear everything up. Don't you keep copies of deposits and payments?? Your employer has obviously lost trust in you and would not want to keep you around unless you can prove it was a mistake. Before you worry about any public assistance try to find the error. How did it cause the company to lose the 5000? I am assuming they don't just hand you over a large lump sum of unaccounted for cash so go through the receipts and see were the discrepancy is. Generally money leaves a paper trail, follow it and see where it is off. do you know what the error is pertaining to? I think you should try to figure out where and when the error may have occurred so that they have a better chance of finding it. Also, you should request that a third party look for it and not just them. But in a nice way without sounding like you are accusing them of anything. |
