Do I make too much money to receive financial aid?

I am considered a financially independent student, so I do not need to record my parents information on my FAFSA. I just got a new job that can get me up to $18,000 K per year. I got to a University of California and they say that my budget for the year is 21K. If I make 18K, will I not receive much aid for next year? Am I better off finding a less paid job?

As an independent student, the income you've stated should still allow you to receive some financial aid. I haven't looked at the EFC for that equation lately, but you shouldn't be expected to foot the bill with your current wages... Word of advice, only borrow money for school if you have no other possibility. Who wants to graduate and have a large loan looming overhead?

Anyone can get student loans regardless of income. If you are going to start school now or in the spring, the application will go off your last years income. Not on the job you just got.

Google "expected family contribution calculator".

That should help.

keep the job go for student loans! yes you will have to pay them back but they give you so much time after graduation to pay them off.
