D'you know anyone living in hurricane threatened regions of US, or other countries? How've they been affected? |
I am writing a news article concerning the local outcropping of hurricanes this season for my school's newspaper. I want to know about evacuation and aid plans now in place, about home damage, how lives are (or aren't) being disrupted, etc. The more detailed information, the better. An specific events, news announcements, etc. I need all the facts I can get, because it's for a newspaper article. My family and I live near Galveston and are watching Ike carefully. We have been through many hurricanes in the past and ran form very few. However, we will look at the situation tomorrow night and make an informed decision about whether to evacuate or not. Since Katrina hit New Orleans, many of us have reconsidered the advisability of staying put. May God guide and bless everyone in the path of Hurricane Ike. 9-16-08 Ike passed right over us about 40 miles inland. Lots of wind and some tense moments when we thought some glass windows were breaking. Damage was limited to many, many broken branches all over the yard. Most neighbors fared about as well. No electric power until yesterday--therefore, no air conditioning, no hot food, etc. Well, though we haven't been hit by any hurricanes recently, I can speak from experience and having lived through Hurricane Andrew what a horrifying experience it is and even though I was 2 I still have memories from that period.(I live in S. Florida) I stay in Winston Salem, North Carolina which is very close to the VA line so we only get the rain and humidity from the storms. Normally causes floods. Especially after Gustav. Im sure that doesnt help much. |
