Could I have a staph infection?

A girlfriend of mine at work told me that I may have a staph infection and I was wondering the possibility of that. August 15th I went camping in utah and got into an accident on a quad. I cut my knee open pretty deep in that accident and my aftercare included clean water rinse and antibiotic cream covered by a clean band aid. When I got home from the trip, i got breakouts on my chest that hurt really bad. I get some acne on my chest now and then, so that's what I figured it was. But I have one sore STILL that has healed up and more forming. When I showed my friend she said that it could be a staph infection. It hurts, but there is no pus. I know I should go to a doctor, but I needed some info before I wasted the doctors time.
What do you think?

If you are concerned, it can't be a waste of time. Although, if you have systemic staph I would think that you would have more of an infection at the injury site which is presumably the entry site of the infection.

Anytime you go to your doctor, you aren't wasting his time -- you're buying it. Make an appointment and let him get a culture of the area (or whatever tests he feels are necessary) to get a diagnosis, then he can prescribe a cure. Don't let it go unattended or you may be buying hospital time...

Good luck!

I promise you that you have to go the doctor or else your gona do so much damage to yourself he'll probably just prescribe amoxillan antibiotics and it should clear it up but if you leave it for a long time then you'll end up with so much unnecessary probs :-)

How Staph Infections Spread
Staph bacteria can spread through the air, on contaminated surfaces, and from person to person. Kids can carry staph bacteria from one area of their body to another 鈥?or pass it to other people 鈥?via dirty hands or fingernails. So good hand washing is vital to preventing staph infections.

It's also important to encourage kids to keep their skin clean with a daily bath or shower. If your child has a skin condition such as eczema that makes frequent bathing difficult, ask your doctor for advice.
