Republicans, please answer?

Heres a little info on me. I am a 22 yr old college student who works full time. I pay for all my college tuition because the financial aid process screwed me over and now i have to pay for my classes this entire year. I have to constantly fill my tank, and the price of groceries have soared! I was in this same position 2 yrs ago, and was making about three dollars less, and never struggled or worried! Now im BARELY getting by! =( What does the republican party want to offer someone in my position? I ask because i never hear McCain refer to the middle class. I need to know what this candidate offers, so that i have the complete facts. I dont want to know anything else but HOW HE CAN HELP ME AND OTHER COLLEGE STUDENTS IN MY BOAT. This is my NUMBER 1 concern. Who better to ask than republicans? Thank you tons!

to the person who said join the military, absolutely NOT would i ever, i am 100 pounds and 5'4 what the hell would i do over there. second off: the whole financial aid process is sooooooooooooo damn difficult to get, the government makes it nearly impossible for you, will all the rules and all around it. My point is, when i was in the same boat, two yrs ago paying for school, and a more expensive rent, about 400 dollars more than what im payingnow, i was NOT struggling at all. and now i am. If McCain wants to help people like me, who are struggling and barely getting by, in college then ill vote for him. But so far, you all are telling me its good that im struggling and its making me a better american. It actually makes me want to leave the coutnry and move to the islands where my parents are from. Now this 700 billion dollar bill gets denied, ok, whats plan b to save the economy bush????

Sorry, if you are looking for a Daddy instead of a President, you better vote Democrat. The Democrat Party is the party of "Let beg government take care of me." The Republican Party is the the party of "Let government get of the way, so I can take care of myself" ... or at least it used to be. Sometimes I wonder these days.

Edit: So you absolutely would not join the military. Hmmm! I guess you are saying that you'd rather be taken care of than find away to take care of yourself. And your size is not a factor. When I was in the AF, I had a Philippine friend who was 4'10 and barely weighed 100 pounds, so don't use that excuse.

To be honest, the republicans aren't going to offer up anything different. You'll be in this boat next year if they win the White House. McCain talked about how he HAD to be in DC for the economic crisis, yet he had no plan. He doesn't have a plan for his presidency either. Obama is on the right track when he talks about bringing the troops home. There's billions of dollars being wasted in Iraq each month, yet I can't afford to buy groceries.

Have you gone on his campaign website? Here is the link to his proposed higher education policy:

http://www.johnmccain.com/informing/news...

This is the one for Barak Obama:

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/educat...

Their policies are virtually the same for higher education.

A government that has the power to provide everything, has the power to take it all away. The Federal government was not brought about to pay your way through college. I too am working my way through. It's been tough but, I've done it, not Uncle Sam.

In the words of a DEMOCRAT (JFK):

"Do not ask what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."

Since this statement was made, the Democratic Party has made an "about face" and has descended into the pit.

He's going to offer you the chance to keep more of the money you make when you graduate. If you're looking for handouts, stick with the democrats.

Read the constitution. It explicitly states what the government is obligated to "give" or "do for" you.

What will happen when Obama raises taxes on who you work for? The price of everything will go up to cover the extra taxes.

Republicans would rather spend money on war, and the middle east, than their american students....

ok

Well,

I am a republicrat. I am registered as a democrat but often vote for republican candidates. In the case of education, the federal government provides grants to persons (or their parents if they are a dependent) who's annual income is below a certain standard. The government does have other programs designed to help students get loans for school as well. This is probably not the way to go, but if you can not afford school, you may have to take out a loan.

In short, Obama's platform is offering money for college in return for an individual working for the community or the public to pay back the money. So, one would likely get their tuition paid for and then during the summer, work in a community based program or for a government agency that is designed to promote the building of infrastructure, and solving social ills. Some persons believe that this is socialism; however, it socialistic for a government to bailout rich bankers when their business failed due to shady practices and lack of oversight. Who is the socialist now?

700 Billion for bankers, and 0$ for education. That is what McCain is offering. Who is getting the handout in these cases? Certainly not persons seeking a quality education.

My opinion is if your struggling so much the military will take you.. and pay for your school.. and with the new G.I. bill give you money for living while you go to school... branches such as the national guard give you an option of school first... which is two years with a guarantee of not being activated anywhere...

So many people want financial aid, welfare, etc... but give them an opportunity to serve their country and actually make great money and benefits they scatter and you wont find them.

Its a shame

Mr. Honesty,

If americans where not so lazy and get out and acctually work instead of keep popping out baby's they cannot afford then maybe or government can spend money or other programs such as education benefits. If my tax money can go to more than 2.5 babies being aborted per second then maybe when get get other thing such as healthcare...

But its easier to sit around all day and talk about what you want... but atleast the soilders serving in iraq are working and serving this country instead of trying to milk our country for all that its worth.

Edit: I agree the military is not for everyone... but my point is everyone in our country wants, wants, wants... and want's some more, but everyone cannot recieve because where would the money come from? Do you think its fair that an adult who is independent and makes less than 18,000 a year can get there school paid for 100% plus about over 1500 dollars a semester for living when someone making just 10,000 to 12,000 more a year perhaps will have to pay for their own school, living expenses and everything else?

LOL... welcome to adulthood! It's not easy. You do have to pay your bills every month, fill your tank, eat, clothe yourself, etc. It's expensive to live life! You never hear McCain "refer to middle class" because that's the garbage Barack Obama feeds you.

I'm glad you didn't get a college loan. That would be living beyond your means. If you have to pay for college and be broke through the process, then you're earning your stripes! There are a lot of people that have had to do that.

This is directly from johnmccain.com...

John McCain's policies will increase the value of the dollar and thus reduce the price of oil. In recent years, the declining value of the dollar has added to the cost of imported oil. This will change. Americans will have a stronger economy, a stronger dollar and greater purchasing power for oil, gas and food.

That is only a portion of what's on that site. You need to read on that site under the category "issues" to find out how he will increase the dollar.

A stronger dollar and purchasing power for gas and food - those are two things that have become very expensive. My husband works two jobs and I work from home and am a stay-home mom of two teens. I know firsthand how expensive it can be to buy gas and food! My daughter is actually 12, so she's actually a tween. However, my son is 13 years old and is 6 feet tall and only weighs 125 lbs! He can eat anyone under the table! It's difficult to feed that child and actually get him full!

Read that website for yourself and make your own informed decision. If you think he can and will help you, then vote for him. Read Obama's website as well and see if you really think he has what it takes to do ANY of what he's set forth and said he "will" do. Lowering taxes is the theme of his campaign and it won't heal what ails us!

By the way, Obama frequently refers to us, the "middle class", because he thinks he'll get the votes that way. He isn't actually going to be there for us! I'm GLAD the bailout bill didn't pass. Our hard-earned tax dollars should not be used to bail out banks that have loaned money to people that cannot repay them! You want to blame anyone for what's happening right now in our economy, you blame the people in this country that constantly borrow money they cannot repay, then blame the banks that lend it to them! Stop laying 100% of the blame on our republican president!

So it comes down to what the government can do for you.

Well that is how we got into this mess.
We all want a hand out and not willing to pay for it.

I think you need to go old school. My mom work her way through college on her own. Took her a little longer but she made it.

You may have to take a year off and work up and save money to go back.

I won't look to any political party to help you because they will say what you want to hear than to drop you once they got your vote.

Here is the hard fact turning to government for help will always bring disaster.

I'm glad that you asked this question, I'm a 26 y/o undergrad student (I joined the military after high school) I am also a republican and here are some of the principles that the republican party believes in to help college students.

1. One of the reasons tuition is high is due to the constant quantity of students who attend colleges. Colleges used to accept students on the basis of merit, but unfortunately now many colleges are basing their admissions on the basis of race and ethnicity. Republicans believe in a merit system, those who qualify for the College's standards should receive first admittance. This will help with tuition costs.
2. Also, a lot of colleges are turning into more of a government sponsored business rather than education. Sallie Mae is primarily supported by democrats to allow multiple students to receive student loans... many who can't afford to pay back. Republicans believe that private loaners can offer a better rate of interest since there will be more competition for students who accept student loans. Most universities push for Sallie Mae and Sallie Mae could end up like Freddie and Sallie.
3. The price of groceries increased because ethanol is made by corn and fuel prices have gone up. Republicans believe that the sooner we drill on our own turf we would be able to provide our own oil before it hits $7.00 a gallon. If we started more drilling we would provide cheaper fuel before prices get outrageously high. Republicans also support Nuclear power which means more technical jobs for engineers and other scientists.
4. Republicans believe that education should be focused on learning, not on political ideology. Unfortunetly a lot of colleges have adopted mandatory classes for students for courses that don't apply to their major. For example, forcing students to know about Islam. That is tuition money for a class no one should be forced to take. Republicans believe in more freedom of choice in regards to education.

I hope I was able to answer some questions you had about the Republican party. Also, contrary to what you may hear the Republican party is not a racist party. I'm hispanic and leader of the College Republicans of my university.
