How do I get grants to become a nurse?

I'm 20 years old, and have yet to start college. My situation is this.. I haven't lived with my parents since i was 17 years old. I can't apply for financial aid because my parents refuse to assist me. So i jumped into working full time jobs after graduating in 2006. I was hoping to save money for college, but that plan is failing and going down quick because paying bills and supporting myself is all i can afford with my wages. My goal right now is just an Associates. I just need to get my foot in the door. I need some direction in finding information on grants for nursing degrees. I know there are more grants for education and health careers than any other Field. Where are they? So anything will help.. Web sites, personal experiences, just any information that could put me on the right track, and the most important piece of information is that i must be able to obtain loans/grants on my own. I CAN'T get my parents signature for financial aid. What my 1st step?

Look online and just apply for every scholarship you can. If you were to 'google' it, tons of search results would show up. It will be really hard to get financial aide with out your parents....

Go to the financial aid office at the school where you plan to study nursing. They will have all of the information you need. Start applying for scholarships. Apply for the big ones and the little ones.

All of those scholarships will require that you fill out an application. Some will require you to write an essay. If the organization offering the scholarship is local, they may also require an interview. Be ready to do all that. Nobody is just going to come up and give you money.
