Hey folks just wondering what you all think about my personal statement and if you could suggest any improvements that would be amazing. Thanks in advance guys.
The constant sense of discovery is what I find most captivating about Psychology. Looking at an individual鈥檚 behaviour in an analytical way allows me to glace at the world in a new and contempory angle. I have a fascination in understanding how the mind absorbs information, interpreted within certain cognitive processes resulting in a behaviour that is willed or unwilled.
Although I did not get the option of choosing Psychology as one of my As Subjects, I feel that my current studies have prepared me for such a demanding course. Biology has improved my observational and analytical skills, strengthening my ability to interpret data and allowing me to draw logical answers. English Literature has developed my ability to think critically and it was through the exploration pf characters that I increased my interest in psychology.
In order to gain more knowledge about my chosen career, I have done a three week placement at BerryBurn Centre, Lakeview Hospital, Derry. During my time there I worked with many children and adults who ranged in levels of disability. During this time my awareness for the abilities that people take for granted greatly increased. I got to assist people who were not able to do simple everyday activities due to their disabilities. I have seen first hand how the different patients reacted to different stimuli such as light sound and touch.
In my spare time I take pleasure in reading, be it short stories or never ending novels. Jonathan Kellerman is my favourite author and he himself is a child psychologist. Something I find significant is the belief that every one of us can make the world a better place be it by helping others. As someone once pointed out 鈥淲e have two hands, one to help yourself, the second to help others鈥? I have been fortunate to take part in charitable events raising money for organisations ranging from Breast Cancer to Aids. My remaining free time goes into working as a sales colleague in a large supermarket. The experience has greatly raised my interpersonal skills and taught me how to deal with a various range of situations efficiently.
As a reliable and hard working individual, I believe I can make a worth contribution, and perhaps more so, during my years at the university. I am very passionate about Psychology and would eventually like to pursue a career in the field. It would deeply satisfy me to be able to devote myself into something that can better the mutual understanding between people鈥檚 behaviour and perhaps promote a better society.
This is very good, I agree you may want to add a bit more about your future goals - is there an area of psychology you'd particularly like to work in? or is there a specific group people you'd like to work for?
You may also want to add a sentence or two about what you are looking forward to about studying at university...obviously you're looking forward to understanding more about psychology but mention if you'd like to join any clubs (perhaps a fundraising or charity club or a student book club) or the student union. Say if you're looking forward to the challenge and indepence university can offer you.
Also, a quick tip, its not the best idea to post your PS online, someone could steal it, or parts of it, and use it as their own, then you could get caught out for plagerism, so I'd delete this asap. Hey ;)
First off, paragraph two, last sentence, 'pf' needs changing to 'of' ;)
Apart from that, its pretty impressive!
You might want to add more about what you'd like to do in the future though, i.e. what career you'd like to pursue. "glance" not "glace" Thats pretty good! |
