Palin denounces anonymous critics as 'cowardly'

ANCHORAGE, Alaska 鈥?Gov. Sarah Palin denounced anonymous criticisms leveled at her by former John McCain aides as lies, including allegations that Republican lawyers were traveling to Alaska to reclaim her high-priced wardrobe and that she didn't know Africa was a continent.
"Those accounts are not true," the former Republican vice presidential candidate said in her first public comments on the matter since the election Tuesday.
Palin returned Friday to her Anchorage governor's office and said she had no immediate plans to build on her newfound national name-recognition and popularity with the Republican base for a possible 2012 presidential run.
Instead, Palin said, she wanted only to get back to the governor's desk to advance a proposed pipeline tapping Alaska's vast North Slope natural gas reserves and to prepare Alaska's proposed 2010 budget.
As for the vice presidential campaign, Palin denounced criticism from unidentified McCain campaign aides as "cowardly." She said she found it frustrating trying to respond to false allegations when she didn't know who was making them.
"It's ridiculous," she told reporters. "You guys report based on anonymous sources, so it's hard to have a defense."
One report said she and her family went on a shopping spree, spending more than the $150,000 in clothing that the Republican National Committee had earlier reported.
"The RNC purchased clothes," Palin said.
"Those are the RNC's clothes. They're not my clothes. I never forced anybody to buy anything. I never asked for anything more than maybe a Diet Dr Pepper once in a while."
The RNC will inventory clothing it purchased for her to account for dollars spent, she said. She scoffed at reports that the RNC was sending lawyers to take back clothes from her home.
"It's not happening. Nobody's told me that they're coming to my house to look through closets, to look through anything. The belly of the plane that had clothes in it, and those clothes being packed up and sent back by staffers, perhaps that's what they're talking about, but these aren't attorneys."
She said she wasn't angry at the continued coverage of her clothing, but mostly disappointed.
"This is Barack Obama's time right now, and this is an historic moment in our nation and this can be a shining moment for America and our history, and look what we're talking about. Again, we're talking about my shoes and belts and skirts. It's ridiculous."
She also denied a report that she didn't know Africa was a continent, not a country, and that she didn't know the members of the North American Free Trade Agreement 鈥?the United States, Canada and Mexico. She remembered discussing both Africa and Obama's stance on NAFTA with people preparing her for her debate, she said. Anything reported as a gaffe was taken out of context, she said.
"That's cruel. It's mean-spirited. It's immature. It's unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away with it, taking things out of context, and then tried to spread something on national news. It's not fair and it's not right."
Asked if she felt muzzled by her limited time with reporters during the campaign, Palin said the media is a cornerstone of democracy and an important part of the checks and balances on government.
"Heaven forbid that a candidate or an elected official shy way from speaking to the media," she said. "So it was a little bit of a frustration that I didn't get to call more of those shots, and I guess that was sort of the 'rogue' criticism was, 'She wants to talk to more of the media' than perhaps some in the campaign wanted me to."
Palin backed off from calling for the resignation of fellow Alaskan Ted Stevens, the longest-serving Republican in Senate history. Stevens leads Democrat Mark Begich by about 3,500 votes with more than 50,000 to be counted.
A Washington jury convicted Stevens on Oct. 27 of seven felony counts of failing to report more than $250,000 in gifts, mostly renovations on his home. Stevens is appealing the verdict.
"The Alaska voters have spoken and me not being a dictator won't be telling anyone what to do," she said.
Fellow senators have indicated they could boot Stevens.
"That's their baby," Palin said. "They'll have to figure out what to do there."
Palin said she was not interested in running for the job if it comes open.
"Not planning on that. Nope," she said. do I trust her? NO
do I remotely like her? NO
But her own PARTY has turned on her..and thats sad...McCain is the one who chose her for Gods sake! Thank you for your support for Sarah. My husband and I are outraged by this post-election insanity about her. I don't believe the lies, and I have not forgotten that she was the most respected Governor in the United States. Many people would never mention her accomplishments as Governor.
I was very disappointed that the McCain camp chose the path for her that they did. She didn't need to be hidden away in a back room, then people wouldn't have been left to draw the stupid conclusions they did about her.
Isolating this issue on her $150,000 in clothing was shocking. Weren't people looking at the fleet of pantsuits Hillary wore through her campaign? I know she spent way more than that. And what about Michelle? Michelle Obama is a clothes horse, and her wardrobe is known to be very expensive as well.
I just don't get this. It was all so unfair. If she's so butt-hurt about the clothing issue she shouldn't have gone around calling everyone "elitist"
She's a joke and has nobody to blame but herself McCain people have been nasty and unaccountable from the start. They lost the election for McCain, no Sarah. Yes I feel sorry for her but I still don't want her here in Washington. I actually live inside the beltway and we need more intelligence in DC not pitbulls. You can add "she's a whiner" to the list of criticisms about Palin. People being liars and nasty in politics is nothing new.
She can handle it. Most people know it is all a bunch of garbage. What`s wrong with her ??? She`s America`s first chance at ripping apart Washington...Not comfortable with that ? Of course she will deny everything, what else can she do. "I never asked for anything more than maybe a Diet Dr Pepper once in a while."
LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks, I needed that. right, enough already don't feel too sorry...when she was mayor rape victims had to pay for their own rape kits She dug her own holes. Not anyone else. Do you trust her ? She is serial liar.
Thanks but no thanks Yes, I agree... I never liked her but they are stabbing her in the back like crazy Do we care? The fault lies with the Republicans for going for glamour instead of dynamism and experience while picking a running mate.
Forgive me for sounding rude, but I fail to understand exactly what the Republicans saw in Sarah Palin other than glamour. Yes, she is courageous and intelligent, but this is the possible post of the VICE PRESIDENT of the most powerful nation of the world that we are talking about, so they should have given more thoughts when choosing the candidate for this post.
Obama's side has chosen Biden, and few can have any problems with that. Yes, maybe Biden's done some bloopers, but so has the others, and besides, he is very dynamic, focused, well-poised and seems to know his position very well, as we saw at the Vice-Presidential debate.
On the other hand, Palin faced constant scrutiny with her high-ware spending and other allegations. She was probably one of the reasons McCain lost by a landslide in this election.
I don't feel bad, they need a scape goat and she is a very easy willing target. Many Republicans were not happy when McCain put her on the ballot I don't feel bad for her at all.
She's getting what she gave.
Have you forgotten how she knocked and dismissed an entire honest and honorable profession of community organizers?
Have you forgotten how she denigrated a college professor who had turned his life around?
Now the shoe's on the other foot. It's called karma. Haven't you folks figured out that all that was made up BS yet? The cloths are property of the RNC and are either being returned or given to charities. Some Mrs Palin may purchase.
The BS about her knowledge is all made up stories , notice there are never any names attached to them.
Governor Palin remains the most popular Governor in the US. And she would have made a fine VP.
Now unless you have questions about Alaska, I suggest we keep our eyes open and focus on Mr Obama instead.

Retired She is being treated so unfairly and while I voted for McCain, he should be the one to step forward now and defend her. He chose her to be his running mate, and if his campaign advisors want to find someone to blame for the loss, they should take a good look at themselves.
There, I said it, and I feel better. WOW You should recognize that the "aids" is one person who has a hair across his ***.
You should also recognize the giddiness of the media to make something out of nothing. Palin dug her own holes. Her interviews were atrocious. Palin pleased a certain type of people. Shes not a well rounded politician. She seemed like your stereotypical bi$#ch. The winks, joe six pack, nasally sound, the first dude. Couldnt you here her at a round table with foreign diplomats. Them spatting off a treaty and her fluttering because she has no clue whats going on. Go back to Alaska. I actually feel a little sorry for her too. It's evil and wrong to treat her that way when John McCain chose her. And I don't understand why he hasn't come out to defend her. And yet this a party that wants to preach Christian values but backstab, backbite and lie against one of their own. They are making the party look worse and worse and even a friend of mine, who is a republican, says he's embarrassed by how they are treating her. She is a strong lady who has faced this kind of thing in her own state when she fought corruption and became Governor. Politics is so ugly especially for women, as Hillary can attest to. I feel bad for her too because I like her and she didnt deserve this, but she will be ok. Don't feel bad for Palin.
She's honestly a rotten person, and as the champion of sleazeball campaigns, she deserves no sympathy when people are sleazy back to her, and as someone who abuses her power to make honest people pay for being honest when it gets in her way, she deserves no sympathy when her own people attack her because it's politically convenient.
Palin getting slandered and used is kind of like Richard Nixon getting burglarized - if it deserves any kind of reaction at all, it's one of satisfaction at the ironic, Karmic justice, not one of sympathy. The "maverick" won't even critize Stevens, the felon convicted on 7 counts. Why then should I believe her about the clothes? And why is she complaining about the McCain staff when she knew their campaign was smearing Obama? If she hadn't been so vile and negative toward Obama on the campaign trail, I would feel sorry for her, but for her to get self righteous about lies against her after the lies she has told is hypocritical.I wish everyone would just forget about her and I hope we never have to hear her voice again. Sorry, I can't agree with you. Yur sympathy is misplaced.
Palin oepenly lied repeatedly. She engaged in racial demagoguery. Her "shopping' was clearly abusive. She displayed an arrogance and contempt for her fellow citizens with remarks about conservatives being "the only real Americans." She claimed expertise in areas like foreign policy when she is so ignorant she didn't even know Africa was a continent.
She deserves what she gets. Save your sympathy for her children. They are going to be the real victims of her lack of character. Good question. Good question |
