As we know by now the reasons sited before the Iraq war were pretty much made up and had very little truth to it. US and its "best in the world" intelligence system later admitted again that they were wrong about those reasons.
So,what are some of the reasons that US may have actually had (but they did not tell us) to go into war with Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein?
Saddam was evil is not one of them. There are many evil leaders in this world and US consider them as friends and ally.
Going for Oil is also not one of them. Syria, Iran and Saudi Arabia also have Oil and evil leaders. We did not go into war with them.
So, did US just wanted to make a point with Arabs or Al Qaeda that we will go into Middle East, anywhere and any time of our choosing? Extremely high priced action to confront the type of terrorists (living in cave) that we were confronting. Try about 3 trillioin dollars ($3,000,000,000,000)

Almost all of the participants of the worst attack in US soil were from Saudi Arabia (SA). It is now known that some high ranking figures in SA transferred money from there through Pakistan to US to commit the terrorist acts. It is also known that SA knew about these transfers and they lied and withheld information from US. What actions should have been taken against SA for their role of terrorism and deception? Just because we have US military base in SA, is that enough reason to give them a pass? Since we had real legitimate reasons, wouldn't SA been a better choice of country to attack to make our point?
Remember what we heard just after 9-11; all bets were off, gloves were caming off and as US stated, "we don't distinguish terrorist from those who also aid and assist them". So what happened with regards to SA? Iraq borders with Israel? WOW
Oil is the reason? Come on guys. Iraq War led to extremely higher oil prices. Its ripple effect led to some of our current economic problems, collapsing the US economy. Where is the benefit and how could it be about oil if it has and still is hurting us big times?
Syria has oil or not, or the cost of war has nothing to do with my question asking about reasons that we went to war in Iraq.
Bush Cheney and Rumsfeld fed us with their BS reasons to why they had to go to war in Iraq. They admitted later that the Intelligence system "the best in the world" was wrong. Do you think they just made a mistake? Or did they just feed us with the BS so that they could go to war and then it was too late to reverse it?
Worst thing that has come out of this situation is that US credibility and its intelligence is now not worth much of anything. World will never take US seriously since they went to war using a lie. No one will ever forget this one. I'll give you a two that I think are possible...
Terrorism: Maybe Bush invaded Iraq out of fear of terrorists. When those towers fell, it invoked fear into our populace, our Business owners, and our investors and helped plunge us into a recession; So, maybe Bush, fearing that another strike would put us into a deep depression that he didn't want to be known for, decided to invade the middle east. Why Iraq? Maybe because Bush thought that invading Afghanistan didn't fully suppress terrorism, so he invaded Iraq because it was the easiest target. Saddam did have quite a reputation for being a demagogue, so maybe his removal would be seen as a humanitarian effort.
WMDs: While Saddam did not have WMDs, he had the capability of producing them. We even have him on tape saying that despite all of the citations put against him, the Iraqi people would always have the capability of producing WMDs, but in the same video, he also said that he would not use them against the US...

...So who would he use the WMDs against? Maybe against his enemies, maybe the jews, maybe against any country that defies him, or maybe not. But the point is that we should never give a man like Saddam Hussein that type of power.
It did come out of Nowhere , but it looked like passenger jets with innocent life's hitting American buildings taking yet more innocent life's, your are correct what the hell were those terrorist thinking, and why didn't Mr. Clinton put a lid on it when intelligences told him there was a plot instead he made it easier for them to get drivers licenses , vote and go to Pilots school of all things. Big oil had billions invested there and no way to get it out of there. As to the reason behind 9-11 I'm not altogether sure. Could have been done to get the country behind the President so we could invade another country or maybe someone else did not want us in Iraq and knew we were going, so 9-11 became a diversion to sidetrack us in Afghanistan, but it didn't work. OIL....I obviously disagree with you. It was necessary to keep Saddam from becoming powerful enough to start interferring with OUR oil supply from the middle east. Saudi Arabia is no friend of ours...but they do like our money. Saddam was a conqueror...and once a conqueror, always a conqueror. We couldnt allow him to get strong enough to use it. first of ALL-- Syria does not have OIL--or not to the extent that other ME countries do--that is why Saddam had a PIPELINE running into Syria--he bribed them with OIL and they would help him around the UN sanctions.
Second--The War in IRAQ has cost about 1 trillion--almost so less than a third of what you are siting--and that is over the last five years--so it would take at the present level of troops and equipment another TEN years to equal 3 trillion.---Which is not happening even if McCain Wins.
third--why did Osama use Saudi's in the 9/11 attacks--the answer is simple---OBL wanted the USA out of Saudi Arabia and he figured that the fact that Saudi people attacked the USA it would cause the USA to pull out of Saudi Arabia--like we did in Somalia.
Fourth---why did Bush choose IRAQ--well that is a long answer but to shorten it up--BUSH wants to "DRAIN the Swamp" I refer that to the middle-east in general---of Radical Islam---that is why Bush keeps pushing for democratic processes in the ME countries.
He believes strongly that democratic nations will blunt radical Islam.
Iraq was the natural choice to start draining it. Politically it was feared by the other countries in the region. It was a terrorist supporting country. and it had already been demonized for the last decade by the western media.
Militarily--it was stratigically located--the very heart of the middle-east and next to IRAN which would in effect ISOLATE IRAN from the rest of the middle-east. It has a deep water port and good infrastructure to support a modern army.
Economically--it has a well educated population, and it has OIL--which will help it to quickly build up a viable democracy.
Anything else? The core reason that we are in Iraq is that it borders on Israel and is between Israel and Iran.
The RATIONALE however has to do with the Neoconservatives who somehow got the idea that Saddam would team up with Iran (fat chance) and that we could install a puppet government to serve as a better buffer than Saddam's regime.

Bush enjoyed a HUGE increase in popularity when he invaded Afghanistan and he used that to remove people's rights at home.
But the war wasn't short and sweet and people began to question what the US was doing there.
So he diverted them with another war for a trumped-up reason.
This allowed him to get re-elected and take away some more of your rights.
And y'all let him do that. It's likely insiders just assumed Saddam did have weapons. There were long history between US and Iraq. At some point US probably aided Hussein. They knew Iraq had weapons programs in past, assumed still has viable program. After 911, terrorism fear took over and insiders thought Iraq just have to go. People make it more complicated than it is. Washington insiders were so scared they thought they have to take Iraq. US have been carrying out bombing missions in Iraq all through out 90s. After first gulf war. Iraq War 2003 didn't just pop in it had long long time to build up. 911 fear just put people over the edge.
