Restraining Order, children involved? |
An ex-boyfriend lives six units down from me in a townhouse complex. It has been over six months since we split and he has not taken it well at all. He calls constantly, appears on my doorstep unannounced, and parks in front of my unit even though there is always a number of available spots closer to his. He has threatened me and my property on numerous occasions, police have been involved and he has in fact been taken away. I have been dating someone else now for about two months and the ex is aware. Last night the ex saw us together for the first time as he drove by us. Neither of us acknowledged him. Later that evening he called to leave a not-so-nice message, complaining that I never talk to him anymore. Later still that night, as my new bf and I were already in bed and sleeping, the ex aggressively rang the doorbell. He then proceeded to telephone my cel and home line. All were ignored. I want this to stop. My new boyfriend has been quite understanding, but suggests that I be proactive in the matter. Today I changed all of my telephone numbers and I am certain that this will absolutely enrage the ex. I am concerned about getting a restraining order because I have children who spend half of the week with me. I am not certain as to whether Children's Aid would need to be involved if the police are called while the children are there. I'm wondering what my options are. I do not want him to come to my door anymore. I am concerned for the safety of my children, my boyfriend and myself. Any information would be greatly appreciated. As a clarification, the ex is NOT the father of the children, and the children actually get along with this ex as they are not aware of any of these situations I suggest that you get the restraining order. This guy sounds like he could be dangerous. If your children are there at a time that he decides to break the order, just call the police. They won't do anything about the children. You have already established a restraining order, you aren't doing anything illegal, he is. Even having your new boyfriend with you at the time is no concern of the Children's Protective Services. Have you considered moving. I know that's a lot of trouble but considering what you have to put up with maybe it would be best. Move away, it's not a safe environment for you and the children. Log and document EVERYTHING! Also, it might help to tell him you have nothing against him and would like to try to get along for the children's sake. You should get a restraining order. It could potentially give you full custody of your children and doesn't cost anything. The source below will tell you everything. Good luck! It is called VPO Victims Protection Order...Get one NOW he sounds unbalanced and you have to have record of what he is doing BEFORE you kill him. I hope you recorded his sorry butt when he left his nasty message. If you did, it will come in handy more than not. |
