What do I need to become a social worker?

I live in California and I would like to become a social worker who helps women and children get away from abusive situations. Puts them in shelters, foster homes, adoptive homes etc. I am planning on going to a community college then transferring later on to a university. I was wondering what types of classes would I need to take in order to get my Masters in Social Work? And what types of financial aid is available to help me pay for my schooling without getting a student loan? Any information would be helpful. Thank you in advanced!

In the last question about this I just got a lot of answers offering me financial loans. If that is going to be your answer please don't bother because it doesnt answer the question that I am asking. Thanks. =)
