Helpfulness of summer Pre-college Programs?

Info*
freshmen - high school
thinking of doing a pre- college courses for summer
it is about 3 weeks you stay at a dorm with a roommate and experience college life, you take 1 morning and 1 afternoon class
or 1 that takes up all day for 3 weeks, it costs about 2000 to 4000 dollars depends on college i was thinking of Brown U which is around 2000 end, or princeton around 4000 end
My mom thinks it is a waste of money however i think i would find it a valuable learning experience, and helpful toward my goal of Med school
m excellent at school 3.8 GPA now kinda low adjusting to high school
and take year i plan on taking AP psych, science, english, history, and possibly math
This year however i am only taking AP english, and getting the prerequisites for AP psych

Do community colleges offer high school kids the same Only cheaper?
What are your opinions?
I would do this and volunteer rest of summer at a hospital if possible.

Thank you for reading, and you opinions

Experiences VERY HELPFUL!

I might look at lower costing ones, work over the summer while not in the program to help pay it off?

And tomorrow I am meeting with my guidance counselor to help me with scholarships, and or financial aid with this. I will think about it more in depth.

Any help full ideas to help make this work?

I oculd do this for my fresh and sophmore year
then try for Govener's school of Health care summer program which i hear is very competative

Thanks Dani and yes you get 3 units of classes for 4000 or so at princeton
and for brown 2 for 2000 or so

This fee also includes room&bord, tips on saturdays for, and all meals

Please tell me you'd at least be getting some units out of the classes. $4000 dollars for 3 weeks is quite ridiculous. I don't quite get what you need out of the "college experience" living in the dorm really only seems to be the case. Classes are different from high school yes, but not all that much and the amount of work really wasn't much different from some of my AP classes. I would save your money. As long as you do well on your AP exams you should be getting some college credit out of that, but community college classes (perhaps evenings) would be helpful and get you farther along as well. But you're still in high school, and while that would be helpful you might want to look into extra curricular activities. It isn't all about grades, especially in colleges like Brown and Princeton.
