Does accutane work??????

I heard someone meantion accutane for acne. Does it ACTUALLY work?? And can you get it at a rite aid/pharmacy?? how much? any info on accutane would help. thanks.

Accutane really does work...I tried pretty much every over the counter product and prescription products out there, and it was the only one that cleared up my skin.

That being said, it is a rather hard-core medication and there are a lot of nasty side-effects including severe birth defects if a woman takes it while she is pregnant. As such, there is a lot of administrative red tape to go through. You have to be seeing a doctor (most likely a dermatologist) who is an authorized prescriber in the iPledge program. Then you have to register with the iPledge program, have two negative pregnancy tests and either two forms of birth control or a signed pledge of abstinence. Then, every month you go to the lab to get blood drawn a couple days before your appointment, go to the derm who will discuss your progress and write you a prescription and enter the visit into the iPledge system. Then, when you get home, you go online to answer some questions and when you have completed it, you receive authorization to get the prescription filled and you have seven days to go pick it up.

It's an awful lot of hassle, and it is SO drying...it kind of takes over every aspect of your life for the typical 4-6 month treatment. There is also a risk of raised cholesterol and liver triglycerides, so there are some serious side effects too.

Price-wise, there are generics of it out...I'm not sure how much they typically run, but if you have prescription insurance coverage, it is usually included. Mine was $15 or $30 for a month's supply depending on my dosage for the month.

Even though I was one of the unlucky ones whose cholesterol jumped 60+ points in a month and I had to eat low-fat low-cholesterol for the remaining four months of my treatment, I would take it again. It did wonders for me and I knew it was my last resort, so it was worth it for me. If it's something you are still interested in pursuing, I would suggest you take a trip to the dermatologist and talk to him/her about you and your situation to determine if it is the right drug for you.

Good luck with whatever you choose! :]

It works very slowly..........it works for 90% of all people who use it and you have a 70% chance of your acne never returning which is the highest of any medication available at the moment. It is very expensive for the 5 month treatment.....but talk to the derm about payment. Also be prepared as mentioned before for blood tests, dryness and the initial break out......it is going to get alot worst before it gets any better (in most peoples' case)

well ive been on 1 month of it so far and it seems to be working but all i can say is that its really really slow...so be prepared to wait at least 5-6 months for GREAT improvement..and be prepared for blood tests every month along with dryness ..because Accutane stops the oil production in the sebum glands...making your skin and lips dry ...and it is in my opinion and many others around the world the ONLY known cure for moderate-severe acne forms..so go for it..it is a miracle drug by far.

It can work, it's not definite for anyone. It is by prescription only, and is very expensive. It can also cause extreme side effects in the short term and long term.

google it and find their website, that will have the most accurate information.

yes it does... it is a cortisteroid... It should make the acne go away...
