Which colleges offer generous need-based financial aid?

I'm not looking for any types of colleges in particular. I just want to know some colleges (doesn't necessarily have to be ivy-leagues) that have all-round great academics/intellectually stimulating (very important) that do not look at their potential students' financial means when making the admission decision, but once accepted, they provide generous need-based aid by means of more grants and less loans. Do you know of any colleges that fit this criteria? If you do, I would greatly appreciate if you'd share/recommend some colleges that fit what I'm looking for, whether you know this through your own experience or from some college lists (please note where you got the information).

10 POINTS for best answer!! Thank you so much in advance.

Most highly prestigious schools like the Ivies, Cal-tech, and MIT do. Harvard, for example, charges you zilch if you earn under 60k - you can't get much more generous than that. When they did it it caused quite a stir - so much so it is now expected that most highly prestigious schools will soon have, if they don't already have it, similar schemes.

Of those my favorite is Cal-tech.

They pride themselves on ensuring anyone accepted will be able to afford it. But really any of those ultra prestigious schools will have similar schemes. The amount you get as grants vs loans will vary though, but overall if you can get into such schools you will be able to afford it.

Another excellent choice, if you can get in, is Olin college:

Everyone gets 100% scholarship.

The issue is not finding such schools - tons of them abound. The issue is getting in. Obviously the competition is FIERCE. Although with a 17% admission rate Cal-tech is not too bad which is one other reason they are my favorite. For me schools like Harvard and Stanford have insane admission rates around 5% or so. Great schools of course, but such selectivity IMHO is simply ridiculous.

Thanks
Bill
