Calif. Supreme Court to take up gay marriage ban AP SAN FRANCISCO 鈥?California officials will investigate whether the Mormon church accurately described its role in a campaign to ban gay marriage in the state.

The California Fair Political Practices Commission said Monday that a complaint by a gay rights group merits further inquiry.

Executive director Roman Porter says the decision does not mean any wrongdoing has been determined.

Fred Karger, founder of Californians Against Hate, accuses the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of failing to report the value of work it did to support Proposition 8.

A representative from the Salt Lake City-based church could not be reached for comment.

Do you think the Mormon church is really to blame for California's rejection of main-streaming the Gay lifestyle/agenda or is it more likely that Gay's had confused "tolerance" with "acceptance" and thus average citizens set the record straight?

Although I'm neither religious nor a Mormon, I keep hearing the gays whining about separation of Church and state and I'm wondering why a church or any religious group loses it's right to donate, run a phone bank, disseminate information, inform the public and or in any way have their first amendment rights clipped just because they're representative of a religious institution?

From my prespective Prop 8 is not a political issue... it's a moral issue

This 'investigation' is just another tool of the witch hunt. The misnamed organization Californians against hate, is going to use every tactic in and out of the book to intimidate people. They know this will be on the ballot again. If they can close businesses, cost people their jobs the supporters of marriage will lose just enough support to swing the vote. The HUAAC is alive and well in Sacramento.


30 States have voted on this issue the score is 30-0.

In all, 58,911,741 Americans over the past decade have cast votes on the issue.

The overall tally is 37,662,846 to 21,248.894.

They always have the right to an opinion, they just lose their right not to pay to tax if they get involved in funding political campaigning apparently.

No, Their just the smallest group Gays can find to pick at. All religions need to back them up right now. A show of support for common beliefs if you will.

Good, but the investigation should not be restricted to the Mormon church: the RC church may have some answering to do as well.

The issue is not how Obama supporters or Mormons or Catholics voted. The issues are:

-did the churches in question violate tax law?
-should the vote have been taken in the first place?

Churches are not allowed to be political and keep their tax status. I believe the facts will show the Mormons and Catholics violated the law.

And, no, a vote should not have been taken in the first place. We don't get to vote on the humanity of Jews or if Blacks are really people. Civil rights are rights, you can't vote them away.

Why is it that the mormons are getting blamed? They are not the only ones who voiced opinions against gay mariage. There were several other politcal groups who were involved and voiced there opinions. It's just that mormons are an easy target to blame. I worked with a gay guy before and was offended to hear him discussing his sex life at work, as i would have been to hear a straight person also, after 5 or 6 times i spoke up to my boss about it, the guys response was "she doesnt like me because shes mormon and im gay".
