Should i turn this person over to collection?

at my work any old unpaid invoices i submit to a collection agency.
well this one person i submited along time ago still has never paid.
its been well over a year. and funny thing is i worked for a finance company before this job and had to "chase" her for her debt then too.

well i found out she works at my school in financial aid.
im not sure i want to disclose this info bc i could really care less if she paid and not to mention she works at my school. i dont want to get her in trouble if her work finds out. but at the same time its my job.

what would you do?
forget about the updated info and aact like it doesnt exist
or give the collection company new info.

an ethical dilemma huh? usually the hardest problems to alleviate. if you know her, just go talk to her confidentially and see where she stands on the matter.

Why don't you approach her and tell her who you are and ask her what she would prefer? Maybe she's willing to work with the company if a "real" person explains what the consequences are and how she can handle the situation without ruining her life.

At the same time, when you do talk to her. You can get a sense of the lifestyle she chooses to live. If she'sliving rich then i'd report her without feeling guilty. However if you can see she's struggling then maybe offer advice and forget that you saw her.

Appples and Oranges. update the collection agency. . some people live by thinking they never have to pay.. and in a lot of casses, owing a few hundred is not worth the hassle collecting.. HOWEVER.. it the person ever wants to buy a house, the open collection items have to be cleared. (paid).. so yea.. keep at it.

The school should have done a background check. It's none of your business, unless you have hard evidence.

If you might get in trouble for failing to turn her in, then do it. But otherwise, let it slide. No need to potentially cause trouble that close to home.

ETA: I don't think you should talk to her about it or get involved in any way. If she wants to buy a house someday she can work it out herself.
