Wife is pregnant, Insurance wont cover it.?

My wife is four weeks pregnant. It was unexpected. Our insurance company said that we have to wait 365 days for it to cover the costs. What would we do next? How do we get government aid? Any useful info would be appreciated.

go to the Health Dept., and they will tell you what to do. or you can call. She can apply for WIC at the Health Dept too.

Did you have this same insurance 4 weeks ago? Is this insurance through work? Does your company make you specify your insurance as single, married + 1, family? If so, do you have 2 open enrollment periods where you can change your plan in 6 months? For government aid, do you financially qualify? Most government aid is given to low income families.

You may be able to talk with your health department and get on a different health program through them. They won't front you any money of course, but you might be able to get onto a health plan that will cover the medical expenses if you make under a certain amount of money. Here in Montana if you make under a certain amount, you can get on Medicaid and they cover pregnancy all the way through delivery and six months after that.

p.s. I can't believe your insurance won't cover pregnancy! I've never heard of anything like that before. What a pile of rubbish.

That makes no sense. Most insurance companies would cover a life change like this. What happened when you got married and added your wife to your insurance? Is your insurance through your job? If so, ask someone in the HR department or another guy who's had a kid under that insurance. Something is fishy here.

yeah definitely get ahold of your local health dept. you might be able to get on public aid and wic.. those would help tons! good luck.
