When I recieve more financial aid if I say that I am not living at home?

Hi. I have been commuting to my university for 3 years now, and for my last year I would like to live on or off-campus without having my parents financial support and without having to get a job and sacrifice my grades. Everytime, thus far, that I have completed my FAFSA form I have said that I was going to live at home. Being that I will complete another FAFSA as soon as my parents get their W-2 forms, I would like to know if I can receive more financial aid by saying that I am not living with my parents. Any info would be of great help. Thanks.

I am 21, so my parents cannot claim me when they complete their income tax returns*. Does this entail that I will receive more financial aid?

It all depends on your situation (and FYI they can claim you, my mom claimed me when I was 21 and she could because I lived at home. Talk with them beforehand and let them know that you want to be independant)

My situation was that my mom's income qualified me for a large pell grant. However, now I am claiming myself and I make more than my mom did so I will probably get less.

It's all based on income & your tax returns.

--Oh but no matter what, claim independant. You get higher returns =D

It won't matter if you're living at home, only if your parents won't be claiming you on their income tax returns. FAFSA looks at the income available to the household, so if you're going to be claimed by your parents you need to put their W2 information on the forms as in years past.

Also here are some websites that can offer some additional information regarding financial aid:
