An Israeli helicopter hovering above the Gaza City continues to carry out fresh strike despite a unilateral ceasefire announced by Tel Aviv.

Press TV broadcast live images of an Israeli helicopter hovering above the city and dropping its white phosphorous bombs on the city during a report by our correspondent Akram al-Sattari in the city.

Columns of smoke could be seen rising from the targeted neighborhoods on the 23rd day of the Israeli offensive against the impoverished coastal silver which has so far killed around 1,200 Palestinians and injured 6000 others.

A large number of the victims are women and children, according to figures by the UN and Palestinian medics.

There has been no immediate report of the casualties of the fresh strike.

The nonstop Israeli attacks come shortly after Tel Aviv announced a 'unilateral ceasefire' which it says has been in effect since 2:00 a.m. local time (0000 GMT).

Hamas, the democratically-elected government of Gaza, has ruled out the possibility of any deal unless its demands are met, insisting that it would not accept the presence of Israeli troops in the region.

The resistance movement also seeks the cessation of an 18-month Israeli blockade on the coastal sliver before its fighters suspend rocket attacks on Israel.

In a response to a question about the arrival of the humanitarian aid for the Gazan people due to the ceasefire our correspondent said that Israeli officials have not taken a clear stance on this matter.

Al Sattari added that he has unconfirmed information that Israeli troops may soon withdraw from the Strip.

Israel has shelled Gaza with white phosphorus after it called for a unilateral ceasefire, in an obvious violation of its own declaration.

A Press TV correspondent on the ground in Gaza reported the event soon after the ceasefire the ceasefire was supposedly in afffect.
Earlier today, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that Tel Aviv will observe a 'unilateral ceasefire' at 2:00 a.m. local time (0000 GMT) after pounding Gaza non-stop for 22 consecutive days.

However, Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhum responded that, Israel must stop all its aggression, completely withdraw from the Gaza Strip, lift the blockade, and open the border crossings.

Hamas also declared that it will not accept the presence of a single Israeli soldier in Gaza.

Israel later said that the troops will not leave Gaza and failed to address the issue of open border crossings in its ceasefire declaration.

10 minutes after the Israeli ceasefire, white phosphorus shells were seen by Al Jazeera, Press TV and even BBC (even though it was editted on BBC), these shells hit a civilian territory and according to sources, three civilians died.

That doesn't sound like a ceasefire, also you could hear the planes, jets and drones flying over Gaza City into noon. That is psychological warfare.

Also Israeli troops still remain in Gaza and a siege is still on Gaza.

This ceasefire will continue until the Israeli military prepares for its fourth stage, they are just organising and giving time for Obama to come into power and seeing what he says. If they get the go ahead again, we will see something far worse than these last three weeks.

It was just a CON, and the Israelis were told by Hamas that unless they agreed to ceasefire terms they would continue to fight, and so to say they were calling a ceasefire was nothing more than a stunt to say ....look we want peace ,but Hamas do not...............

The cease fire does not mean they can shoot at Israeli Soldiers or rocket launch missiles at Israel either but they- Hamas is. So this, what you are seeing is in defense. Not to secretly shoot or attack people. Israelis are defending themselves against Hamas.
Israel did bomb a missile area that was firing at Southern Israel they said so. they defended soldiers in Gaza as well. Did anyone expect they would not protect themselves?
I want people on both sides to end this and live safe good lives. But Terrorists like Hamas want to blow up everyone. Even I am sick of it.

If Hamas truly wanted to find a solution to end this "war" then they should have taken advantage of the cease fire to negotiate an end and achieve their goals.

Since they did not, then the logical conclusion is that they do not care how many of their own people die. They just want to continue following the orders of the governments in Iran and Syria which control Hamas.

When will you admit that Hamas is not playing their own game but only taking orders from Iran and Syria.

Actually it was HAMAS that continued to bomb israel , despite the temporary ceasefire in place... if you watched some balanced media instead of the biased hamas and bbc tv you might know that...

and as for hamas... i dont know any other government in the world that would happily deal with a universally recognised terrorist organisation that makes no secret of wanting to wipe ALL jews and many other people off the map completely ...

Yaqub H: resistance to what? Being given the Gaza? Being allowed to be citizens of Israel if they will live there in peace? Resistance to the Israelis defending themselves from children and women sent over by the Hamas cowards to blow up bus stops and shopping malls (obvious military targets!)? Get real. If the Arab world cares so much about Gaza, why don't they help them build a country, rather than egg them on to attack Israel?
