I am filing for FAFSA and just found out my dad didnt pay taxes last year!!?

Alright, so I am 19, considered a dependent according to FAFSA and i am about to file my taxes in a couple days independently like i've been doing for past 3 years.

I just received my FAFSA pin and I was starting to get all the documents together that I need to fill out my FAFSA form, of course I also would need my parental information so I asked my mom "hey, i need your guys' tax information for last year (2007 income, 2008 tax return (so i could get aid for this year's summer classes)" and then she tells me that they didnt file taxes last year...

Now i'm wondering if FAFSA will frown upon that and if I should even bother filing. Of course I will make them file this year but will that help me for classes before july 2009 (summer classes)? or should i just start college in the 2009-2010 year (fall of this year)?

You only have two options.
1. Get your folks to obey the law and file their 07 taxes so you can start in the summer or pay out of pocket to do so if they refuse. Just be aware, not everyone is REQUIRED to file. If they have little or no income, this is a simple matter of choosing "will not file" and filling out the rest of the info to complete the application.

or 2. Use their 08 taxes and start school during the fall.
