Financial Aid Question for application? |
My school is not helping AT ALL! My parents dont want me to enter any false information but there isnt a way to state that she isnt living or is getting money from her mom. What the financial aid office is saying (in not as many words), is that unless your friend has been legally emancipated (with lawyers and a judge and has the court papers to prove it) from her parents, then she still is required to list her parents information on her fafsa. Fafsa has some crappy rules, but you have to play by them. ANYONE under 24 and unmarried (unless emancipated) has to list parental income. You have to be accurate as well because it would be like cheating on your taxes, they can fine you for that. If they won't give the info there is really nothing you can do except get emancipation from the courts (meaning her parents have no legal ties to her). Unless your parents are legal guardians of her then I don't think there is much you can do. |
