How do you check your Stafford Loan status?

I made a application for a Stafford loan a really long time ago but I never got any information back on it.

I went to my college's finacial aid office and they confirmed that I did make the application and I just had to wait.

It's been a few months and I still haven't heard anything. Does this mean I don't qualify?

If I don't, what am I supposed to do now? I got 0 amount of financial aid from filling out FASFA and I'm trying scholarship.

Tedward:

Once you received your financial aid offer from the school, you were assured of Stafford approval. There is no real "application" process - it's simply a "give us your information, read this long legal description of what you are agreeing to, and sign the forms" process.

If you applied for a Stafford and electronically "signed" the Master Promissory Note (MPN) that was part of the application, your loan is already approved, and the funds will be disbursed in time for your school's Fall Semester payment deadline.

Keep in mind that this money will not be coming to you - Stafford loans are disbursed directly to the university, and applied to your account balance. If your school receives more than enough funds to pay off your balance, any remaining aid will be returned to you for your use in paying for books, room and board, school supplies, and other educational expenses. You can expect that "overage" payment within the first 2 or 3 weeks of the semester.

Nothing really happens at this point - as I said - if you completed all the paperwork for your loan, it's already approved, and the money will go out to your school in August or September (if you are starting in the Fall semester). Only half of your loan will be disbursed for the first semester - your school will receive another disbursement in the Spring.

I hope that helps you - good luck!

You're very welcome. Love your icon, by the way. Report Abuse

You need to contact the people that you applied for the stafford loan with. It would have been a bank or loan company. If no response, complete another application with a lender you are familiar with, not the one your school tells you to use.

If your financial aid office can verify that you've completed an application, they should be able to give you some information. You won't get turned down, they will send the money directly to the school. Speak with YOUR financial aid adviser at the college, not the person at the counter or who answers the phone.

i am not sure but depending on what bank you tryied to use then perhaps u can call them... usually on ur schools financial aid website there is a link for loans. did u use sallie mae?
