Federal spending on AIDS research, prevention, and treatment is tripling...how is this justified?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080726/ap_o...

Why are we spending so much money on fighting a disease which is 100& preventable, instead of spending the money to fight diseases such as cancer, coronary disease, etc...?

I can prevent AIDS with one sentence: Don't do your buddy in the rear, don't shoot up, and don't sleep around. Where's my $48 billion?

crabby: My ignorance must be almost as pathetic as your comprehension skills. I didn't say it was strictly from homosexual contact, although that figure is FAR above 10%. Infection can be traced back to either homosexual contact or intravenous drug use in the overwhelming majority of cases.

The companies that make money off this disease donate big bucks to Congress. Get the picture?

Underlying the problem are the twin malignancies of pollution and overpopulation. The poor planet cannot deal with exploding billions -- billions -- of occupants with an insatiable thirst for raw materials, energy, water, and, of course and ultimately, economic advantage at any cost.

And the politicos argue about such inanities/insanities as gay marriage, stem cell research and abortion rights. Gay marriage should be encouraged and rewarded, stem cell research hurts no one and benefits people with awful diseases, and the question as to abortion is not whether it should be permitted, but whether it should be required. There are already too many people; children are starving and being slaughtered and horribly treated around the world; senseless, destructive wars are being fought over control of precious resources; human rights are in the garbage can; religious nut cases are strapping explosives to themselves and killing anyone that doesn't agree with their version of divine intent; our own government is spying on us.

It was long ago demonstrated that if you put a few rats in a cage, they get along fine. If you put a lot of rats in a cage, they begin to fight and bite.

Yours truly,
Just Another Rat

Your ignorance is pathetic. Less than 10% of AIDs cases are due to homosexual contact--the rest are heterosexual.

Aids is a dangerous disease and is killing millions of innocent women and children. CIVILIZED people know this and are happy to support the research. The rest of you don't count.

AIDS is on the rise in the South... its also rising among older people - 50 and older. Its not just a gay man disease, it hasn't been for years. It can affect anyone.

Its not as simple as you think it is. If all of life's problems were that easy to solve...

Way to slant!

$48 Billion to fight AIDS and OTHER DISEASES AROUND THE WORLD

Your premise is false. There are children born with AIDS. Health professionals, and emergency personnel can catch it by accidental blood contact. Men or women can catch it because their spouses were unfaithful and careless.

Ask Bush about the Hundreds of billions he is wasting in Iraq with no bid contracts to Halliburton and other cronies of the VP.

edit:
Actually I see that you have more than one false premise in your question. The bill is not just about AIDS. It also addresses Malaria and Tuberculosis. See the link below, and the link you posted.

So what is on your agenda that is causing you to try to mislead people like this? Would you have us believe that you "accidentally" omitted mentioning malaria and TB?
