If some parents don't educate their kids about sex, should we still let their kids remain in the dark?

There are some people who argue that it's the parents' responsibility to educate their children about sex. That may be true, but we all know that there are plenty of parents out there who DON'T adequately educate their children about sex (or anything else, for that matter). Should these parents' children be saddled with an unwanted pregnancy, simply because NO ONE educated them about contraception? Should these parents' children die from AIDS, simply because NO ONE educated them about STD prevention? Would we be doing these children a disservice by letting them remain in the dark about pregnancy and STD prevention?

Children who get the safe sex talk still end up pregnant. Should we bring back chastity belts?

So YOU should decide when MY daughter learns about sex? How is that YOUR right?!?!?!? Why not EDUCATE PARENTS? All this constant blathering from the left about educating the kids and build better schools. Doesn't make a difference if their parents don't force them to go. PARENTS are the ones that need education. A shiny school isn't going to make the drug mule on the corner suddenly want to spend 9 hours a day in a classroom.

You need to concentrate on the right problem. Oh, and YOU have no business teaching MY daughter about sex.

I think it's HILARIOUS that this answer gets thumbs down. Just goes to show that the left has no clue where the problems lie...it's the parents, not the children.

is there really a misconception that screwing doesn't cause pregnancy? if saw they need to be locked up for public display of ignorance,and if they are to young to know this fact then the one that got them pregnant needs to be locked up for molestation or any other number of crimes

I sympathize with Sarah Palin and her daughter. But this is why we need sex education in school and at home. Abstinence is not the only way to prevent pregnancies. And it's not a very effective one. That's why teen pregnancies are down in parts of the United States...

I can see your point. It's sad we live in a world where some people are so careless in their parenting duties.

And to whose moral standards do we educate them? Yours? Why are yours better than anyone else's? Are you going to just teach the physical aspects of intercourse or are you going to teach them about the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of sex? `

Maybe we need to teach our children that every action that they take bears the burden of responsibility of that action and that some actions carry more responsibility than others. And that the consequences are THEIR responsibility, not anyone else's. No easy fix. No easy way out. If they don't want to be "saddled with an unwanted pregnancy" then they shouldn't be having sex. Is this unrealistic? Maybe. But making someone else pay for your mistake or selfish error in judgement is unfair and unreasonable.

Maybe we need to teach our children to have more respect for themselves and not think that they will find their fulfillment in meeting the physical needs of those who just want to use them for their own gratification and then move on to the next conquest.

Maybe we need to learn to forgive our children when they do make mistakes by helping them through the tough times, not by getting them out of trouble the quickest, easiest way but by getting them through the problems showing the most care, love and compassion for all involved.
