How can a Psychologist help to prevent and control diseases like AIDS,Malaria and Dengue etc?...Can a Psychologists join the Center for disease control or the Red cross/UN etc?
Im a student of Psychology and my main interests are disease prevention and control....
Any ideas on where I can start?....
thanking you in advance for yor replies....

You can look into health psychology.
Health psychology focuses upon how biological, psychological, and social factors affect health and illness. Many health psychologists perform on the best ways to promote healthy living and prevent disease and/or how people react psychologically when they are diagnosed with an illness. Health psychologists are also interested in patients' personality or attitude to see if it has a positive or negative effect on their health.

they can guide people to accept the truth and not fear the world and in turn not rely on drugs sex gambling food anger depression control to fill the emptiness within, we are all responsible for our own health. when we can take responsibility for the aforementioned shortcomings then we can take responsibility for the solution.

all form of sickness is originated from sin(conscious mind not agreeing on unconscious mind) thus creates stress, makes the body weak and susceptible to diseases. not everyone will get affected by diseases if they learn how to live in truth. control

a sin is anything you failed to give attention to, in relation to your well being. for which a person is very busy doing things that they giving too much attention. there is no concrete rule in sin. sin was made depending on the person's strength of will. if you believe it's not a sin, it is not a sin. actually it shouldn't exist if a person listens to his body and mind's behaviour.

Thinking back over 40 years I recall many positions that requested degrees and experience for the fields noted below within the framework of "disease control or prevention".

Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Clinical Psychologist
Social Psychologist
Health Educator
Nurse, Practitioner - Educator
Medical Epidemiologist

Most were with pivate foundations, the UN, Peace Corps, perhaps CDC, Federal Agencies, etc.

Few directly wanted a Clinical Psychologist and most noted a specific need for one of the other areas or such as an RN who was also a MSW or Psychologist.

Language skills are also a consideration seems few Ph.D level psychologists work in the roles you are interested in.

Try the APA's job search feature and you will find many positions, mostly as a Post Doc level or as a faculty member.

HIV/AIDS is the "hot area" it seems but I know that there are "tropical medicine" options.

I was recruited, well a long time ago for a Peace Corps position that required: MA level or MSW counseling skills, preventative medicine or nursing experience and "the ability to operate and maintain small watercraft - boats". Marshal Islands.

Also are you in the US, UK or elsewhere also determines the roles available.

The military also has roles like you noted. I can also think of many religious organizations that have a strong psychological framework for health programs in such as Africa and East Asia.

I would look at doing an "internship" with such groups? No real way to go back and get a nursing degree for most, I came out of nursing into clinical psychology. "Bush (jungle) hospital" experience is a real plus.

just some ideas and a good URL to visit. I am long ago retired.
