How did AIDS first start? We alway talks about prevention but how did the 1st AIDS virus started?

Is it spread from animal to human?

Like all living things which have evolved from other living things, viruses evolve from other viruses.

Viruses evolve when their genetic code mutates or when bits of one virus's code get stuck on another virus's code. If the changes in the code make the virus better able to replicate than before then you have a new type of virus.

HIV evolved from very similar viruses which are common in chimpanzees and other primates, called SIV or Simian Immunodeficiency Viruses. These have been around for a long time, but don't usually infect humans.

Some time ago, a type of SIV that was infecting a chimpanzee evolved and changed into a type of virus that can also infect and cause disease in humans. The first human probably got HIV about 70 years ago, probably from blood to blood spread from a chimp that was carrying this virus. It then spread slowly from human to human, but the disease it causes, AIDS, wasn't noticed until the early 1980s.

The only other animal that is known to be able to get HIV-1, the main AIDS virus, is a chimp. You could, in theory, catch HIV-1 from a chimp but not from any other type of animal except for a human.

in college, I was always told it originated in Africa. this aegis.com site mentioned a case first isolated in that country in 1959. hope this helps.

We will never know....

The virus is carried by African monkeys, It can only be transmitted by intimate contact, ill let you think about that.
