Aren't abstinence Aids programmes an abomination, it doesn't work and then people get Aids don't they?

People should be given access to the means to protect themselves from disease, that Aids is mainly a sexually transmitted disease should not change the way we approach disease prevention, keeping people alive and healthy should be the first priority of any Aids prevention programme... not pushing a religious dogma.

Any abstinence programs that just rely on JUST SAY NO concept without even bothering to educate people is very ridiculous.

The key to prevention is EDUCATION. Who gives a damn what god or who not thinks about sex---that is not going to help your virgin a** if your sharing needles.

Abstinence, even better than any other Aids Prevention Programmes, would be 100% effective in keeping people safe, alive and healthy (at least in regard to aids) if followed carefully.

Everyone likes to ignore the reality that this is NOT a society that waits until marriage, that has one mate for life. It's easier to bury your heads in the sand and say it doesn't happen... and to assume that each person who contracts a disease is DESERVING of that fate.

Abstinence is a good lesson but lets face it ppl rarely do, so only teaching abstinence is very dangerous, ppl should have all the information then be allowed to choose for themselves at least that way if they are having sex it will be safe for them and their partner, it's common sense really ppl r gonna have sex it's what we do. giving ppl the correct information is the only way to stop the spread of AIDS.

T-MC is right they did an episode of Penn and Teller and it showed abstinence only teachings do a lot more harm than good, we also pump millions of tax dollars into these programs that rarely succeed!

Abstinence is the best way to prevent pregnancy and STD's.

However, not teaching children about condoms in school is simply pointless and puts our children at risk. After all it's not up to the school to teach our kids that sex is wrong.
